I've tried them (actually a similar product), didn't care for the results and never bothered again. I think the plant selection for these types of pouches is critical. I doubt tomatoes would be successful - they tend to have big root systems and need copious amounts of water and planting multiple tomato plants in a single pouch is just complicating these issues. A shallow rooted and rather drought tolerant plant may work better - stonecrops or portulaca or even a few trailing groundcovers. I had a hard time keeping even petunias going in these through summer and petunias will grow ANYWHERE.

They do dry out PDQ, but I bought those Water Cones and water them that way. My Roma's are taking about a quart every 2 days but in the heat of the summer they'll take about a quart a day. The Cucumbers don't require quite as much water as the tomatoes so I'm still watering them by hand when they need it.

I just received 2 offers of Parks Wopper Strawberries and 2 growin bags (and I had a grow bag left over from the last time I ordered them) so I just this morning planted up 50 strawberry plants.

I, too, am growing strawberries, lobelia, and petunias in pouches, but I never thought of doing coleus.

I've tried impatiens in them several times (they always look so nice done this way at garden centers) but let them dry out even once and the plants are stunted for life. I keep increasing the proportion of water crystals--I think I'm about 30% now. This year I'm giving it a go with portulaca--so far, so good. If that doesn't work, I'm giving up on them!!

the pouches can't take all day sun....they need a break from the heat...its been 90 for 2 weeks here and this years are looking good....i water once a day at the most.....every other day if its not real hot....once the plants get really big in august i cut them back so they can regroup....thanks for the kind words

I've never checked this forum before but Crunchpa's porch is awesome. I brought up this thread because I'm unfamiliar with Park's hanging pouches. What is? I'm trying to renew hanging baskets this summer, mine have never been that beautiful. Is there hope for me?

well, i gave up on cherry tomatoes in mine, transplanted into the garden, where they're perking up. they had shade in the afternoon, but just couldnt take it. might try them again next year, with plants that dont require so much water. one side note tho, the pouches were full of roots, so perhaps they just grow too many roots to plant this way, kind of too much roots/soil/water?

Just an update since June--the portulacas I tried in the hanging pouches were TERRIFIC!! They stood up to the often-dry conditions and are alive to this day (we're overdue for our first frost). They're lush and covered in hot pink flowers. I don't think I'm ever gonna try any other kind of plant in the pouches because these worked out so well.

I'm brand new to this so I don't know what Parks is/are, can someone tell me where I might go to see what these things look like? Thanks
