rock pathway

Hello,

new home owner here - I searched some past posts on this subject and could not find anything to benifit me, so I apologize up front for asking a question that may have been asked several times now.

I am fortunate to live next to a construction site where there is a tremendous amount of large rock in various shapes and sizes. So I have found about 80 pieces of rock that have at least one side that is flat. I want to make a path from my front yard to my back yard. My burmuda sod is still fairly new and I can have it rolled back up in less than an 1/2 hour.

Question is - after I have the sod pulled up:

1) should I lay down sand to stabilize the rocks or will just plain top soil work?

2) should I lay top soil down over the top of the rocks as filler and can i use grass seed to get that natural look?

3) Any other suggestions to make this path sturdy and one that wont look bad a few years later.

Thank you all!!!
