Permafill in Large Vertically Mounted Container

I am wondering if anyone has any ideas about a proper container mix, container, and size for a wall-mounted, steel wire-supported planting container that would provide substrate for vine growth above street level?

So far I am thinking about a Permatill 3/4" expanded slate structural soil (80%) with a sandy loam mix rounding out the rest. The intent is to create a more or less permanent substrate for hardy climbing plants on a facade-mounted steel cable/trellis support in an urban setting.

Container-wise, I know very little at this scale in terms of durability/insulation/weight, but those are the issues involved.

I know these questions are kind of specific, but I am an LA grad student just trying to get some ideas. Please chime in.
