Keep waiting. I planted mine last year too. Someone said in a thread that it doesnt start popping out of the ground until the pears and crabapples start blooming. So Thats generally mid April here.

Way too early in your zone! Wait till late April or even May and your patience will be rewarded.

Thanks - I wasn't sure what to expect! "Early spring" seems to mean different things to different people, lol.

Looks tasty. Is it purple or green spears you planted?

I'm right on the IN/MI border, asparagus waits til mid/late May here. You don't want it to come up any earlier, unless you're growing in tunnels or something, frost turns the spears to mush.

I'm TX 7b and my asparagus has begun to come out. I collected some yesterday morning since we had an Artic front come in and were in the 20's last night and will be tonight as well.

I was impatient too, so I gently moved the soil from around the old stems - and saw some grows under the soil (all white).
Question - do I need to fertilize them ? - when? - what ratio / type of fertilizer?
