What melon for New York?

I'd like to try to grow melons in my zone 4/5. Does anybody have recommendations? How early do they mature and how do they taste? I've considered Collective Farm Woman and Eden's Gem.

I'm going to start them indoors early. They will be under lights with a fan to provide air movement and gradually hardened off. I can clamp the lights right over them and am hoping I can artifically stretch out my growing season by a week or so. Once it is frost-free they will be in 18-gallon totes (two plants per tote) on a cement patio that gets good sun.

If you suggest a variety, please describe the melon. I'm a picky eater, if I don't know how it will taste I'm never going to consider it. I'd like feedback from people who have actually grown and eaten the plant and fruit... if I look at seed catalogs *every* melon "tastes sweet".
