Can I just plant the seeds from tomatoes directly?

I read an article about planting the seeds from harvested tomatoes. It mentioned that I had to dry the seeds several days from the mold of the jelly part. What's the successful rate for planting the wet seeds directly from a tomatoes? Or at least just drying them for a few days, and then plant them directly without having the mold growing? I don't think I want to go through all that process of growing mold first then, separate the seeds from the mold......

Thanks
