According to the company website, it is only for use around ornamentals. ... "biodegradable repellent is easy-to-apply on and around flower beds, ornamental gardens, ground cover, and lawns". I'm doing the same thing. I've got one bed put together with a pile of compost sitting in the middle, will work on the second bed later. So haven't gotten the peat & vermiculite in there yet... But my problem is this is going to be the biggest best litter box to my cats. I thought I could use rabbit fencing. Yes technically a cat could jump 3ft rabbit fencing, but they don't do things they are uncertain of, and in this case they can't be certain what their landing on. But the why isn't as important to you just that I'm facing the same issue. I have some type of rebar or some material about 3ft high that goes a bit into the ground on two corners, then the trellis on the other 2 corners. I can easily wrap and attach the fence to these corners but I need easy access. I thought it would be easy using carabiners to hook the corners together. But I don't want to spend money on easy attach and detach. My coworker suggested I check the dollar store for some cheap carabiners so I might try that out. Luckily in my situation I can get rid of the fencing once the veggies are established. I guess you have to think about long-term veggie growth with actual rabbits. I'm still figuring it out as well.

I have a serious rat problem, and only a minor rabbit problem, but some of my lessons learned might help. Rats can and do easily chew through plastic fencing and bird netting. Rabbits will chew through plastic fence if they see something they want. (They don't seem to chew through until the strawberries are actually visible, whereas the rats do it just to show me that they can.) My "final solution" was a 2-strand electric fence using hardware cloth on the top of the raised bed as a "ground" and putting the fence on a dark/dawn timer. No more rodents. Period. It's worked for 3 years. The strands are 3" apart and the lowest strand is 3" above the top rail of the raised bed. Birds are unaffected if they land on the wire as they're not touching the grounded hardware cloth.

I am sure you are right that fencing is a very big solution to a lot of critter problems and since we already have the entire perimeter of the yard fenced, I am starting to accept that the best solution is to modify the fencing we have to keep as many critters out as possible. Thanks for the warning about the bloodmeal - yes, I thought that might possibly backfire. [g] Cats are out of the question. My husband has allergies to cats and really, aren't most cats indoor only cats now, due to coyotes? That's a good point about the odors of animals. I had a thought that maybe I should have the dog do her business along the perimeter and near any points where it looked like anything was entering the yard. Thankfully, we don't have to worry about deer. That must be hard. We've had a problem with groundhogs, because they can climb right over the four foot fence section. But luckily it has only been random years. I don't know anything that helps when you have a groundhog.
