my brussel sprouts never brusseled
Comments (15)Never heard that one macky. I think they all prefer pretty fertile soil. I think it's all about a timing thing. I've had differently timed successions of broccoli and cauli in the same plot turn out different sized heads. I can plant them from Aug-Feb, but I notice the closer I get to the winter solstice to planting, the smaller the head. Which makes sense because the amount of sunlight. I also notice that my winter harvests(when planted in late/summer/early fall) are a bit better than my early summer summer harvests. With my Brussels, I get big plants and I get sprouts. They're just always loose leaf sprouts. I read last year that July is supposed to be optimum for them here, so I'll give it one more shot I don't know how that's supposed to work out though -- our summers don't really get going until late july. Comments (0)Does anyone have these to trade? I have over 50 heirloom tomato seeds (including OSU blue) and a fantastic array of caribbean hot and seasoning peppers. Probably over 100 total between the tomatoes and peppers, and loads of other veggie seeds. I love rare/heirloom/unique coloured items and am open to other trades. Not into flowers, etc. Veggies only please :)...See MoreBrussels Sprouts yield/fertilization question.

Comments (4)Same here,I grew mine from seed & most of the plants are very stubby.I have sprouts forming on most plants, but they are very loose in form & not tight like a sprout should be.I think we are right at the border for growing sprouts here & the constant up/down temperatures affects them. They prefer a constant cool season, rather than 75 one day & 40 the next.I think I will plant them earlier next time & hope that the sprouts have started to form as the first hard freeze hits....See Moredigdirt2
