WANTED: several things for my sun garden- have hostas

I am looking for peonies- I forgot how much I enjoyed them at my other house! Would like to trade for several tubers as I have a huge sunny space for them!

I am also looking for:

spider lilies

mums

tulips

and any other bulb plants (except daylily- I already have a hosta addiction - can't afford another one!!!)

I have a hosta list from last year here to choose from, or I will fill a priority box full of my unmarked hostas to trade. (Top preference, as I want that space for a new garden!)

Bear with me as I work full time and go to school full time, so I may be sslloowww at returning emails! Sometimes I only get a chance to check my email every other day or so.

I have a gallon sized Festiva Maxima and would love to trade for your H. nigrescens. I also have gallon size Halcyon and can take a start from several named minis, looking for other minis.

Thank you PV for your post all all great tips:) My balcony is facing north and there is a bit of sunlight in the front of in usually by noon. Then its all shade for the rest of the day...Lemon trees seem to be doing fine so this will be an experiment with herbs. I didn't know about carrots that they will not grow without full sunlight (too bad was excited for some sweet young carrots) but i will look into lettuce! Your basil is amazing. what kind of basil do you have? i bought seeds of sweet basil but saw some other kinds and had a little bit dilemma of which one to choose so went with sweet one. I like growing from seeds - more fun to watch and more satisfaction than buying a grown plant. Does growing broccoli or cauliflower require a big container? I might be interested in that but I don't have room for a big container on my balcony. Fortunately I am the only person who will be using herbs for cooking and veggies (if that works out for me) so I don't need a lot. I guess just a bit of everything that I like. I still want to get some dill seeds. I bought 2 new containers - one smaller one medium and will have to figure out what to plant there.... Thanks for tips on plants and flowers! i am interested more in once that will live longer than one season... and that will add some color to the balcony. unfortunately its more of a concrete balcony and I don''t have any railings to use for attaching a windowbox. SO I am left with whatever pots/containers I put on the floor i guess. I am excited to expand flowers/plants on my patio. It's probably not he best time of the year for it -fall - but in I live in San Diego so another 2 months should still be quite warm before it's around 45-50 degrees in the winter. Hi Nomadcat, welcome to the forum! I'm in the middle of moving so I have no plants or seeds to offer but I do have experience with a few things on your list. I brought some Honeyberry with me when I moved to NC and they held on for many years, even bloomed and set fruit. They never really thrived but I had them in very poor soil and in a lot of shade, and I live in Raleigh - so you may have better luck with them. Many people complain that they have no flavor so be careful. I bought my alpine strawberry plants at Home Depot and I also grew them from seed by just scattering the seeds around the yard. The store bought plants have done better than the seed started ones. My yard also has wild strawberries (F. virginiana) but they rarely produce berries. Maypop is very easy from seed. I've harvested seed from wild vines that were loaded with fruit thinking that those seeds would produce highly productive plants - which didn't happen. You'll have to collect the currants from the wild since it is illegal to grow them here. A few people have them but you can't buy them. Horehound and Marshmallow are very easy and some herb gardener in your area should have them. They are one of those plants that once you have them, you'll always have them. The park down the street has a lot of honeylocust up near the walking trail but by this time of year most of the seed pods are gone. They are easy from seed. If you find any growing in the wild, dig a lot of the runners because not all of them will make it. Good luck.

Hi there Ms. Weedin, LOL. Hey we're almost twins! My bday is Jan 28! Our climates are pretty much the same too--hot and humid. I've been to Atlanta during the summer and nearly passed out. Fortunately, over the years, I've gotten accustomed to the heat and humidity here in Arkansas and even work out in the 100+ temps. Non-gardeners always ask WHY??? LOL I notice you say you're a non-recovering junker. That's too funny. You could be my mother! LOL I, on the other hand, am a recovering junker. I am really, really trying to minimize the junk in my house and my gardens. I discovered Ebay a few years ago, and it's wonderful for clearing out the junk...and bringing in BETTER junk. LOL Really though, I'm ahead of the game. I have so much more room now than before. And I really like not having all the clutter. So you got any daylilies or other plants to trade? Plants are the main "junk" I collect these days. :-)

It sounds like that should be fine. The sun at that time of the day is not the strongest and they should do well. I would do it. My hostas are in dappled shade most of the day with a little late afternoon sun and are growing and healthy. But I am not the most expert in these things, I'm sure someone else will answer.

I am looking for hostas for my mother. She isn't picky like me on names lol, but she does love the Blue ones.
I have alot of un-named daylilies that WERE purchased and traded for and then some neighbors sweet child pulled up the plant tags in that particular bed. So....I am trading all of those. They are daylilies with eyes, ruffles, really pretty ones, as that is all I purchased, however, I cannot tell you the names. Let me know if you're interested.

Hi all! I think I was able to email everyone back. Majority of your emails went into my bulk folder- yowsers, they almost got swallowed up!

Again, I will not be able to mail anything out until monday may 21st. I will not be able to respond to any emails until thursday late afternoon. I will also be able to communicate friday afternoon, but will not be able to communicate over the weekend (working 32 hours total sat and sun!)

I do have a peony that is not doing well in it's present location, I am not sure of the color, either pink or maroon I could trade you, and I also have a few hyacinth bulbs I can include. I would love some of your 'love Pat' hosta, I received a small piece last year from someone, but it has not come back this year. I would also be interested in any other, 'uncommon' hosta if possible, just not the plain green or old fashioned green and white, but also nothing rare, if you know what I mean.
