That's even worse than "Wildflower Assortment" which contains some lovely flowers and some very invasive species that would consume the bed of the uninformed; like yarrow.

I'm not even sure how I'd deal with "Salsa". Scatter it in my bed and stake the unknown variety of tomatoes willy-nilly?

I love Home Depot! I can buy a flimsy 4' "tomato stake" for $5.00 or I can get a 8' 2x2 for $2.50.

Here's an idea!!!
Buy a few of these salsa packages and use the envelope only to put thank you cards in after you have been invited to a summer pot luck, etc.
Another use is to empty one and put it on a popsicle stick and use it for a "marker" for salsa served to friends.
I use pretty or hand drawn packets as gift toppers on spring and summer gifts.

How this could be almost sensible - The packet has smaller packets inside, each with seeds of one kind of plant, along with instructions for each.

I trialed a "salsa' package for a garden club several years back and they were smaller packets of generic Jalapeno, tomato,and cilantro. No onion tho. Probably fine for folks who only deal with generics, but I am variety conscious.

The seed packet DID have smaller packets inside. However, the time to start the seeds and the manner they are grown are so diverse that the odds of getting all the crops to mature simultaneously would be astronomical for the beginner gardener for whom this was designed. My experience with cilantro (here in W. Oregon)is that it really tends to bolt during our hot dry summers and well...onions should have been started (from seed) weeks ago. I am sure it is possible, but the idea that you could get salsa out of a seed packet struck me as comical

I use the big box stores, but the salsa pack is for sale, the packager does not care if it grows.
I over hear wild misunderstanding in these garden center.
Sometimes I tell the people talking what I think & they always think I work at the store.

yep. every july i see someone picking up a 50lb bag of rye/fescue with hopes of overseeding their lawn. here in the transitional zone, it doesnt work, and i have to explain it to them. most common response is "but its for sun or shade". admittedly i was that guy once before i got educated.

same goes in the seed section. "no you probably wont get much lettuce right now in july, when its 95 with a kabillion percent humidity" "whys it out here then?" i dont know. give it a shot. worst case, youre out a buck and few hours.

on the same note, its stupid packets that probably turn people off to gardening. here in VA you could LIKELY direct sow tomatoes and get some in the fall, but i cant imagine theres too many other places north of us that could.

can you imagine the let down for someone in minnesota that just picked up this salsa pack, and planted everything, only to get maybe cilantro? then if theyre not watching it, have cilantro take over their yard forever? again, i was that guy. sigh...

Uff,my case wasn't lol, but I could not decide if I should open my mouth or just walk away:this weekend they had a great deal on all veg.and herbs transplants 50% off so I saw this lady( happy I'm getting a deal smile on her face) with a huge cart full of every single variety they had including lettuce,broccoli,cauliflowers,etc...that they were clearly bolting I think she picked the tallest plants,on her cart she had also a raise bed kit,soil and everything you need to start a garden.So I asked if she had garden before She said YES!then told her and explained that the plants were bolting and would not produce,She said oh, I did not notice and looked at me weird...sometimes I feel like people judge me:Young = stupid as I walked away notice she put them back...

i get the same look. young, male, tattoos, i look more like a thug carpenter than a garden enthusiast.

i have had people actually ask me though as im staring at the seeds, usually as theyre talking with the SO about how to build/grow whatever. i like that. i can talk plants all day, and usually have to shut myself up. it always ends with the same advice though- "plant it, get dirty, thats the best way to figure it out."
