Planting Potatoes - Compost/Manure

I try to expand my horizons each year, so another first for me - I'm going to plant some potatoes. Checking around, I found this advice from one seed source:

"Potatoes like deeply dug, moderately fertile soi l which has not been manured for at least one year."

How important is that? Like the rest of you, I pretty routinely use compost and manure on my beds. I do have some bagged topsoil and some peat and vermiculite handy. Would I do better to use that?

I'm trying the potato bags (see link), so I can easily use either.

Thanks for the benefit of your experience.

P.S. These Bing links are killing me. If they would at least stay relevant to the subject being discussed they wouldn't be so annoying.

Here is a link that might be useful: Potato bags
