Yeah, it needs a little something in terms of a railing--maybe some pretty metal work?
If it's sunny there you could plant some climbing roses or clematis, unless you don't want bees near your front porch. If you don't, I wouldn't plant things like Russian Sage, etc. When you're fumbling for your keys to get inside the bees may bother you.
If you want something to cover that window, or don't mind if it does, then I think some miscanthus sinesis would be cool right there...or any other ornamental grass with nice plumes. You'd have to give the grasses some good compost worked into that soil of course.

I liked podperson's ideas, and appreciate them. Is there anyone else who has ideas I can consider before I go ahead and make some decisions. I'd like as much input as possible.

The bush, (boxwood? privet?) looks one sided and might be hard to rehabilitate to symetry unless it is privet. I'd dig it out and start over with a couple of nice flowering shrubs. I'd also test the soil and work with it a bit, it may be suffering ill effects of the foundation work.

It reminds me of the time that I planted a swath of bulbs in the bed along my driveway. While I was wondering what to plant in the empty row left by the fading bulbs, the kids starting using the area to walk from the lawn to the driveway. I realized that I did need a path from the lawn to the driveway so that it was it became. Maybe some steps from your front door to your driveway would be more beneficial than plants.

Good eyes Brent, I totally missed that! I agree, stepping stones to the driveway, maybe the cement ones, there's lots of variety to choose from. Interplant with some type of groundcover or just do bark chips. Then get rid of the one-sided shrub and plant with a shrub that's smaller and fun.

No one is really serious about making that a walkway, I hope.

Your plants are tired looking and could use a make over. I would suggest removing them, rearranging them, and supplementing them. The rhodies and azaleas are a very easy transplant with high survivability. I would ammend the soil, though. That looks like New Jersey or Cape Cod soil there.

There is a large conspicious walkway.
The large walkway appears to be curving to the driveway and gently sloping to it. There is no need of the redundancy. It is not an inviting place to walk. It is steep.

Most of all, it will look extremely tacky because it will be obvious that it is a bandaid for an alteration that disturbed the area.

If you were to design the garden on this house from scratch, would you put a path there?

If that is indeed a yew, it can take hard pruning to rejuvenate it, but it will be a long time before it looks decent again. Otherwise, rip it out and replace it with something that won't outgrow the space. Mulch or a groundcover that will tolerate whatever the conditions are in that area can fill the rest. You don't give any info about the conditions.
