If I sold greenhouses I would do the same thing too a few times. Then look at how, and why it failed. It is the only way you can find out how your product fails in the real world. Hey software companies release their stuff to "beta testers" If they learn nothing more than to add a warning "this product will not withstand gusts of more than 40mph" it is worth the field trial.

Maybe the part of my stems under the soil level was longer than yours, I usually strip the leaves from at least 3 or 4 nodes when rooting cuttings - I have to because the mix I use is so loose that if the cuttings are not in there deep enough, before they are rooted they float out when I water! I am not sure if it is good to do it that way, but it has always worked for me. So even though the stems are planted deeply, the roots are still minimal, but they originally rooted over a year ago and were pretty established as far as bella goes. There was no root ball though, when I removed the surrounding soil, I was left with a handful of stems with roots, pretty much falling apart, even after a year. And I don't do anything different with this hoya than I do with my others. Another thing is that the bad soil I had repotted with the first time was very compacted in the bottom inch of the pot, all of the finer particles had sifted down and just created this inch of hard pack wetness - even with no roots at all, it would have held up the stems. The upper part of the soil fell away more easily but I had to pull apart the bottom bit of it to get the rest of the plant out. My poor little plant, so much trauma. I had misgivings about repotting again but I felt it was suffocating in that Miracle Gro soil and I had to take a chance.

Hi Scarlet - Thank you and I am very sorry that your veggies did not turn well, we all learn after we failed and try not to make more mistakes again. I grow some some veggies in pots, always the tomatoes but they have to have room to grow unless they are the dwarf size and can be grown in a smaller pot and of course the red mulch is a big no. I don't put any mulch in the containers because I like to test the soil for watering and also with the humidity here it can create problems, You have to look for veggies that can be grown in containers, I had success with Renee garden seeds for containers. You can do well with peppers, herbs, lettuce, dwarf kale, some zucchini and cucumber varieties will need a bigger containers. Growing in the ground or raised bed is easier but sometimes not possible due to space or in case with the tomatoes and the nematodes. Don't give up and try to find better containers. I have some inexpensive plastic tubs and growing celery, parsley and cilantro, sometimes I do lettuce in them or start seedlings, all my containers have multiple uses. With the weather and the bugs here it is not the easiest thing to do to grow healthy plants unless we are very careful and spray if we have to. Good to know that you are getting beans and greens, the other veggies will follow, broccoli and cauliflower take a long time. Try to get some transplants of a different tomato variety and put them in a different place if you can, to see if you have better luck, I plant heirlooms and hybrids for the same reason, something has to do well. I am busily planting veggies...hope I am not jumping the gun too much but the weather is so good and I have raised beds with wooden frames so the soil is about 45 degress now. I have planted this weekend: peas, turnips; various lettuce; green onions; Swiss chard; spinach and radishes. Am I just too anxious? I have removed mulch in various places so I can see the bulb action. Only blooming bulbs so far are crocuses. But the tulips and daffodils are doing well. I watered my new (last year) dwarf apple trees and my blueberry bushes and my asparagus and rhubarb bed and strawberries. I continue to clear the yard and flower beds and take full advantage of the weather. Last year at this time there was snow on the ground and the beginning of several weeks of rain. So if these year is a pleasant variation on that theme, I am ready to take full advantage of it! Hope I am not going to make a mistake by this jump on the season.
