Avoiding a landing strip and other lighting questions...pics

I moved into a NC home with a large backyard (with an outbuilding smack in the center) 2 years ago and haven't done a good job of keeping the yard up to par (with a digging terrier and 5 year old twin boys it's tough). I am wanting to add some landscape lighting and get the place looking better. I have temporarily placed some path lighting in my flowerbed borders and not along the straight path to avoid looking like a landing strip; however, I can't see along this path at night. I would also love to get some advice on what you would choose to uplight in the backyard...I have one light spotting the pink camelia tree towards the front of the flowerbed...what else would you add to the area shown? I have over one hundred camelias (most mature), 5 hydrangeas, beds full of iris, daylilies, zebra grass, azaleas in this yard and am overwhelmed. Would you uplight the outbuilding? Many thanks for your suggestions.
