Corn density

I was intrigued by the lasagna and square foot gardeners suggesting that corn can be grown one plant to a square foot.

I have excellent soil in raised beds 12 inches deep. The soil below the beds was originally tilled deeply as well.

The last soil testing last year showed (Jan 07) showed greater that 12% organic material. I will be planting in a bed used last for legumes.

Can one really grow corn this close? I have grown it well spaced at 8" with 30" between rows. Square foot spacing would add 65% to my yield. I'm planning Polka, Ambrosia, and maybe some left over Honey Select.

Would appreciate everyone's combined experience.

Thanks

Scott
