What soil mix do you use to start your seeds?

I'm wondering what folks use to start their indoor seeds. For years I've gotten peat moss and bags of regular cheap top soil at one of the big box stores, and mixed them about 1:1, also tossed in some slow-release fertilizer (I get a bag of Scott's veg fertilizer, something like 18-24-6 maybe?, every few years).

It's cheap and has worked fine, but I'm getting tired of the mixing (rather a chore when I need a whole lot of seeds started) and tired of pulling out the stones and twigs and assorted solid debris that is in there.

So I'm thinking of breaking down after all these years and buying a ready-made seed starting mix. Do folks use these? Any brands better than others? I am about to make my annual Johnny's order, they have a mix they call Johnny's 512 mix. $11 for a 20 quart bag. Anyone used this? Other recommendations?

Thanks -
