Best mulch for a new corn plot

I'm going to grow a block of corn this year for the first time... basically just going to till a big swath of my lawn and transplant seedlings. I'd like to mulch around the plants with something beneficial to them, and I'm curious as to what some of your recommendations might be. I was initially thinking a cover crop of clover might be just the thing, but I'm also wondering if i could just use some of the copious amount of grass clippings I generate every week. Both would appear to have a nitrogen benefit... but my question would be whether the benefit will occur prior to the mulch being tilled in at the end of the season. Which would of course mean they do nothing for my corn this season. Thoughts? Suggestions? How would you go about fertilizing (organically, please) a new plot of corn?
