Too late for tulips?

Hi all,

I am a newbie to bulbs, and I'm grateful for all the useful advice I have found on this forum! I am quickly learning how addictive bulbs can be...I started with a few daffodils and irises from Home Depot, then discovered Easy to Grow Bulbs online, and it's been downhill ever since! : )

Anyway, here's my question. My well-meaning sister-in-law gave me several bags of hybrid tulips as a Christmas present. I have only planted species tulips so far as they are more suited for our weather here in South Louisiana. I know that tulips generally need a period of refrigeration here...so is there any hope for planting these given the late date? How long would I need to keep them in the refrigerator before planting? Would it be better to try to force them in pots? If there's anyone from the hot and humid South who has successfully grown tulips, thanks in advance for your advice!
