Your bulbs will have done nothing between when you dug them up and now. Maybe put out a few roots, maybe just starting to sprout, but they won't have grown any bigger. They will shrink between now and spring as they push reserves into the leaves and flowers, then they will grow again until the leaves are dead or you dig them up. Quite small daffodil bulbs can flower but don't rely on it.

The time to divide any bulb is when they go dormant and you lift them up.

This might be a potentially very dangeous advice.

that it is not allowed to separate the still rather firmly attached flat daughter bulbs because there is a serious risk of rotting. During the next season the bulblets gradually separate themselves from the respective mother bulb and become round single bulbs. During the next season they simply grow up to a bloomable size (if they weren't already) or additionally they begin to split, too, thus initiating a new cycle of offset formation.

That means that in the strict sense daff' bulbs are not separated at all because there is neither no need for that nor is it allowed to do so.

First, most bulbs, including daffodils, break dormancy in the fall and start to put out roots. If you haven't already, you should plant all the bulbs you have now, as they will develop an extensive root system until the ground freezes.

Depending on the variety of daff, most bulbs starting at around 10-12cm (1.25inches) in circumference will bloom the next year if handled properly over the summer. Some smaller bulbs will also bloom, but not reliably and with smaller flowers.

I don't know too much about how daffodil bulbs divide; in tulips, the main bulb shrivels up after blooming, and the bulbs that are left when the leaves die back come from the small protobulbs you see on the sides and bottoms of tulip bulbs when you buy them. I believe daffs are different, i.e., more like amaryllis bulbs, where the blooming bulb doesn't shrivel up and die.

I agree that you should be careful breaking up daughterbulbs attached to a larger bulb. If you have to separate, do it when you dig them up, dust with sulphur, and leave them in a dry place for several days to allow the broken tissue to heal and dry. If you need to store them over the summer, keep them dry and at room temperature. Plant them around the first frost.
