As mentioned, Brent and Becky's has a whole section in their catalogue of miniatures. Some are real gems. I want to try lots more, but the ones I have so far are: x odorus Linnaeus (Campernelli or Campernelle): my favorite daffodil. It is not a miniature, but is small and has fine foliage that goes away very gracefully. Highly fragrant and often my very first to bloom. Naturalizes easily here. Baby Moon bulbocodium conspicuus (Hoop Coat): deep green, fine foliage, big bloom for the size of the plant. VERY small plant. Naturalizes easily. Fairy Chimes (sort of similar to Hawera) Hawera: my second favorite Jumblie Minnow (white) Tete a tete (a good do-er. Naturalizes) You might want to check out "The Little Bulbs" by Elizabeth Lawrence. It's an old book, but has great information in it. I got mine through Amazon.

As you can see, not many people seem to force muscari. I've never done them, but here's the info from my Bulb Forcer's Guide (you should get this book if you plan to do any serious forcing of any bulb): Muscari Blue Spike requires a minimum of 15 cold weeks, and Early Giant 14 cold weeks (45-48F). They should be potted up in a well-drained, ph6-7 potting medium. After the cold period, they'll require about 3 weeks to bloom at 58F average night temp. You can speed that up or slow it down by adjusting the growing temp, although going from 45F to anything over 60F in under a week could induce bud blasting. I would like to learn what bulbs (other than paperwhites) are suitable for forcing over just touching water and colored glass/ pebbles. I saw a pot with rocks for sale at BJ's Wholesale Club - it had two large purplish bulbs included - but no directions, or clues to the bulbs on the package - or in it. I am tempted to go back and buy it - just to let it grow and see what they are! I went to an open house this week - where the hostess had placed lots of paperwhites over pebbles in very tall glass vases of different sizes and shapes all over her house....The height of the vase supported the flowers as they grew and they looked beautiful with large lacy gold bows on the vases. I thought that the arrangement was very clever - as my problem with paperwhites over the years has always been their tendancy to fall over when they are fully mature. Any ideas for other bulb choices? Thanks!

its NBD ... though knowing where you are.. might help define such.. the flowers are not hardened off to sunlight nor temps.. they can not go out now .... bulbs are planted in fall ... it was always a family tradition to get mom flowers for easter and mother days.. THEY ALL WENT IN THE GARDEN ... we enjoyed the flowers indoors ... and when they started looking ratty.. about the time they go dormant in late spring.. dad would chuck the pots outside.. on the north side of the house.. let them dry.. and harvest them like onions.. and hang them in the garage until october planting time ... or once dormant.. just stick them in the ground.. and hope for the best ... other times.. leaving them in the garage for a decade or two.. lol ... the trick is.. to get rid of that potting media.. as its usually too spongy to 'mix' with garden soil ... and speaking of which ... bulbs dont like to be sodden.. and some media is easily over-watered.. so as flowers decline.. back off on water ... once planted.. who knows what the success rate is/was,... we never kept that close a track on them.. but the yard had quite a few scattered around.. do get rid of the foil.. and it is defeating the drainage of the pot ... what do you have to lose.. at worst.. just stick them int he ground.. when it warms enough.. in my MI... mid may???? ken
