Mine are doing some of the same- I've been blaming it on the lack of rain but we did have the early heat and now cooler weather. Blooms are lower than usual, including asian and oriental lilies, some are blooming weird-never fully open and I have one yesterday where the entire flower looked fine except for one mushy ugly petal. It looked like the one petal had bloomed the day earlier than the rest and was dying back while the rest of the flower was fine. Flowers that I have had for quite awhile are shorter than usual and smaller blooms, colors on what few have bloomed not as bright as last year. It's still early bloom season, so I don't have many blooming yet-but they aren't at their best.

Glad to see your DLs started to give you some blooms Rick. Even though I have many, many DLs, I do not have BES. Yours looks very pretty. I think my DLs seem really slow this Spring producing scapes. I don't know about where you are located in PA, but here we have not had as much rain as usual which might be a factor. My first to bloom in the established garden are Bitsy and Stella D. Frank, Your aulicums are beautiful!! I didn't have good luck with mine, I definitely did something wrong, but I will try again another year. If your old pollen was frozen, you should have fairly good luck using it; I have and have had good results. Actually, I'm using some now and some swelling is occurring so I am hopeful. I'm using Cyber Space and my not Kahlua which was a lovely spidery flower on Exotic Star. I plan to use more as I have a new papilio that will be blooming with 4 flowers in a few weeks.!!
