Best way to taste avocado and mango varieties?
Comments (12)Flfishie - You can not go wrong with the Brogdon avocado, it is a good choice. Here is a ripe Brogdon going to be part of my lunch today On the mangoes it gets difficult to choose, lol. After I went to the tasting at Fairchild, I was confused like when you smell too many perfumes. I do prefer fruits that are small size and have no fiber, so that leaves me with fewer options if it was for me, also I found that is best to sample 1 variety at the time. So everyday I do only 1 mango from the varieties that I took home and here are my new favorites: 1. Alphonso 2. Fairchild 3. Champagne 4. Pairi I still have to sample the others... Comments (0)I have grown my own Smooth Cayenne from free crowns from the grocery store and they are VERY good, but I have also heard rave reviews about Sugar Loaf and other local varieties that you never see in the stores. Would love to hear people weigh in on the flavor of Sugar Loaf and some of these other varieties that most people including myself have never had the opportunity to try. Comments (0)In an effort to "significantly" extend the all too-short Mango season beyond the usual June/July varieties I'm looking for input on these or other "off season" varieties. Winter varieties are especially appealing. I have had Keitt which is okay (not great) how would you rate these other varieties for flavor on a 1-10 scale using Keitt as the basis for comparison. I personally rate Keitt a 7 and I wouldn't ever plant a tree that didn't taste at least as good as a Keitt. Keitt - (Sept/October) - 7 (Currently available in the stores. Pleasant mild slightly pineapple type flavor. Not great but 10x better than the usual Tommy Atkins spitters and better than no Mango at all.) Choc-Anon/Miracle Mango (November) - Only winter variety I know of, but flavor reviews were not very flattering Maha Chinook (long season/varies??) - Seen claims that it has a long season that can vary. Nam Doc Mai - Multiple Blooms? Heard it can have multiple blooms, but not every year. Rosigold (March) Jean Ellen (April) Brooks Late (September/October?? Similar to Keitt??) Other: ?? Thanks...See Moreaka_peggy
