Confused about perennial tulips! Types and soil..

I am really new to gardening and have never planted bulbs before..

Can species and greigii tulips be one and the same? I would really love to plant some tulips and leave them in the soil for a few years and I understand species tulips are the best for this. A website that sells species bulbs has a couple greigii bulbs, too (http://www.bloomingbulb.com/XQ/ASP/Category.165/parent.2409/QX/CartBulbs.htm). So, are they one and the same? I am confused!

Has anyone tried to plant greigii "Toronto" and leave it in the soil? What in your opinion is the best tulip for leaving in the soil?

Also, some places I have read that you should add peat moss to the soil, some others say that peat moss can harm the new roots. Some say to add manure, some say to stay away from it..

TIA! :)
