corn in a raised bed
Comments (1)Garydavid: Your raised bed is very different from a container, so you're unlikely to get useful tips here. You might find answers to your questions in the Squarefoot Gardening Forum or the Vegetable Forum....See MorePlant spacing in raised beds - advice ffrom the forum?
Comments (5)In general you can plant much more intensively in a good raised bed setup that you can in traditional row gardening. I can get a dozen corn into a 3 by 3 bed NO PROBLEM and pollination is good (someone on this forum told me one year that you can really cram corn together if need be and he was right). Eggplant I do 6 to 8 plants around the perimeter of a 2.5 ft. diameter round bed and that is about maximum for that space. Your onion spacing sounds fine, you could even snug it up a little more. Cucumbers can be crowded like all heck - I do it every year. I have some 1 by 2 trellised beds in which I plant at least 6 cucumber seedlings at each end - so a total of 12 per bed. Good luck and learn from your experiments!...See MoreSpacing between raised beds??
Comments (6)I planning a redo on my garden space. I'm leaving 2' between most beds, but I am leaving a 3' path through the center so that I can get a wheel barrel in. The most important thing is that it is comfortable to you. My beds are only 3' wide because 4' is a bit of a stretch for me and 3' is much more comfortable. Good gardening, Mary...See MoreSpace for pumkin in raised bed
Comments (1)Plant it so the vine is growing over the edge toward the sun and away from the center of the bed. Depending on the type of pumpkin, you could also add a sturdy trellis and let it climb. Smaller pumpkins like Sugar Pie can be supported in a sling tied to the trellis(I have done this). Just my thoughts....See MoreMichael
