Mine had trouble the first year but after that it seemed to take care of itself. I live in the very rainy northwest. I caged one and did like Sue36 and just shook the water off the last one I bought. I think the nurserys grow them really fast so they don,t get have any strengh to the stems thier first year out in the real world conditions. It will also faint on you when its gets to hot. It will stop doing that after a year or two in the ground.

The spring blooming species(with foliage) and the yellow center is Hymenocallis liriosme. I must admit that I have not noticed those to be fragrant though. The fall flowering ones on naked stems are likely Hymenocallis occidentalis(syn: H. caroliniana). They can bloom anytime from mid-summer to early fall, after the foliage dies down. None of mine have put up any bloom stems yet, although the foliage has died down.Both of these native species are found in NW LA. My H. liriosme came from a late dear friend near El Dorado, AR. Rb

Marlorena, unfortunately, as I have learned the hardway, FKD does not hold up very well after cutting. The petals are very tissue like. I tried twice using it in arrangements and it wound up looking like a mess. So I just enjoy it on the bush now. I was recently at Biltmore and they had a whole bed of FKD. The roses were tall, but they had cut the tops of the canes down to keep it at a certain height.

Its normal for a young Pee Gee to have branches that are not strong enough to support the weight of the blooms. If branches are breaking or seem like they will break I would prune. You'll lose those flowers for this season but won't harm the plant. As long as the branches don't seem like they will break i'd just let it flop. As the plant matures the wood will thicken and the problem will self correct. Also, in late winter/early spring I'd prune 1/3 to 1/2 off all the branches. That too will help.
