Yes sallidz. I have found everything and have been using it for years. You can get the turface from the john deer company in south portland, the granigrit from Andys hardware in dayton, and pine bark just about anywhere. We do live in the pine tree state :) Let me know if I can help some more. filix.

Thanks, I was going to start at Paris Farmers' Union, but Andy's is a great tip. I knew that availability had to be better in a more rural area. Do you mean Chad Little's as the John Deere Co. It's on Main St.? If so, I'd have never guessed; their website makes no mention of anything other than equipment.

Yup, I know it's the pine tree state but, since size of bark matters and some of pine bark marketed as mulch is dyed to a consistent color..... (don't even get me thinking of that orange junk :o) ) I was asking to see if anyone had found a particular product and place to purchase bark of an already appropriate size as I am a realist and know that sorting/sifting is one thing, but chopping/ chipping is something that is just never going to happen at my house!

http://www.jollygardener.com/acadia_perennial_mulch.htm. The Acadia perennial mulch in a bag is all set to go. Don't have to add lime. Its already in there. They also sell it"without the lime" in large amounts to garden centers in the state. Call them to find the one nearest you. I sometimes buy it from a place in kittery. They sell it buy the yard. Because buying in the bag is kind of pricey. Lately I have been sifting my own. 207-998-5580

I sense a bit of mix up here about this type bark..

Are we talking about the "gritty mix" or the "5.1.1 mix"?

Al can correct me if I am wrong, but the bark you are suggesting that is already limed and decomposed would be best used for the 5.1.1. mix. The one from Jolly Gardener..That is if you are interested in making this one.

The type of bark fines you want to use for the gritty mix is not composted as in his photos, and in this gritty type mix, you would add gypsum....It sort of looks like the reptile bark that Jodik has also posted before..

The type bark pictured almost half way down the thread are pictures Al posted and he explains which bark is best for what.

Notice the bark for the gritty mix is barely composted, a much lighter color while the bark for the 5.1.1 mix is much darker..

Thanks Mike. Yes that mulch is for the 5.1.1 They have uncomposted too, for the gritty mix. That might have to be sifted through a 1/4 inch screen. And then through a insect screen to remove dust. The gritty mix is sure worth the time. Sorry. :) filix.

I love Maine!
I love the hard shelled sweet lobster, and Arcadia National Park! The corn fields and the dirt roads that lead to no where. The ocean and forest that leads right up to the coast.

I have friends that live there that want to grow in both mixes, and I thank you for helping me to help them.
