Hyacinths & Frostbite: Any Hope? Advice Needed

Hello again  and more expert help from bulb fans needed.

I planted some wonderful heirloom hyacinths last fall in large pots, with mulch &mdash 'Madam Sophie' and 'Marie.'

One 'Marie' came up out of five, and bloomed. Shortly after, about five of the ten 'Madam Sophie' came up and got brutally nailed by a late and extended deep freeze (unusual here in Virginia, and it followed at least one eighty-degree day!) Though bloom stalks had formed, nothing bloomed.

If I put these in the ground now, is there any hope they'll come up next year? Or should I store them in the house until fall, when it's cooler?

And why such poor performace? Is this typical of heirloom bulbs? They were all planted the same depth in the same pots. Is mulch a bad thing for hyacinths?

Advice gratefully welcomed!
