Collected Gardenia

dobbers

A little while ago I went over to a friends house and collected a real nice gardenia with a fat little trunk that is perfect for what I'm looking to do. The problem is that b/c of the very high sand content down here there is rarely a rootball and fine roots are spread in many directions. I guess the good news is that I got pretty much ALL the roots, but what's next??

I was thinking about cutting maybe a bit more than 10% of the roots and putting it in a training pot. Any other opinions? Thanks
