My Marigolds have dense short leaves and green empty flowers. Why

My marigold plants are growing strangely. I think this is a dwarf variety to begin with. The plants are only about 4-6" tall and bear lots of small to medium size flowers. Now I notice that few of the plants have developed extremely bushy appearance. The branches and leaves are very dense. Leaves are much smaller in size. There are lots of flower buds (more than all the normal plants) but the flowers are "empty". All the sepals in the calyx seem to be normal size but inside those sepals it looks like it is empty, no petals. But when I open the sepals, there are small petals which are green instead of their normal yellow or red color. I wanted to attach but did not find the right link. The instructions on this site about that are really nonexistent. If anybody can tell me how, i can upload some.

Any ideas? Thanks.
