cyclamen seedlings

I got some hardy cyclamen seeds a month or so back. I planted them, kept them in the dark and watered well.

I now have sprouts, some of them almost an inch long. They have little bulb(ets?) at and slightly below soil level. What I do not yet see is anything resembling a leaf, so fat they are just little stems.

Do I now take them out of the dark or should they stay in the cold dark place where they have been sprouting? I will say that these seeds are definitely strange in my experience.

I grew some from seed last year, which doesn't make me an expert. But I didn't keep them in the dark at all. I left them near an eastern window and put them in a rather shady spot in the garden for the summer. They spent the winter jammed up against an eastern window so they could stay rather cool. They are all still alive and relatively healthy although still very small. Hope this helps some.

Can you give us any more information? Did you sow a seed? Plant a tiny 'bulb'? Where did it come from? Location, climate etc. What is the underside of the leaves like? Can you give us an in focus view? From the leaf it could be a cyclamen but it's not a newly sprouted cyclamen seedling since they have a single leaf and no visible corm to start with. May be a one year old baby cylamen corm?

Plant them out in dry shade, water well for several weeks. Make sure shade is DRY, it is essential. Cyclamen is hardy enough but will hate wet feet in the winter. I have done experiment by keeping some seeds potted and planting it out first season. As long as they dry there is no difference.

What a a well thought out landscape and lovely collection of plants. I so love your sidewalk planting - so much more interesting than a lawn. I think your Sasaella will be fine, so many plants are wrongly zoned anyway. I grow Sasaella albostriata and it is perfectly hardy for me. From the looks of the perennial plants you are growing, there really doesn't seem to be any zone difference at all between Zone 5 and Zone 3.
