HAVE: Japanese Red Maple seedlings
Comments (1)I don't have anything on your list but I have some shade plants? Helabores---blooms a pastel pink/green Miniture hosta--it's Caroline's gold I believe. Very small leaves...a border plant and DOES like more sun than most hosta. King Humbert Cana lily. Creeping Jenny. Orange day lily Can root a hydrangea for you.. Can root cuttings from my jasmine vines. (Rooting these would take a few weeks for an plant to survive mailing). I have autum joy sedum that's great for full sun LOTS of ivy. 5-6 diff types. Also have cast iron plant. I would LOVE a jap maple. We moved into 3 acres and I'm needing some nice pretty trees. Let me know?...See MoreJapanese Maple or Red Maple seedling?
Comments (9)I think you mean Bloodgood, and I'm a bit late to this conversation, but they will look like the picture I am sharing: Or this... Or this... These are all from Acer Palmatum 'Bloodgood' and germinate successfully from samaras (seeds) that get cold stratified naturally (or in a fridge for 90ish days) and then grow into seedlings (shown in all of my pics). You can graft other cultivars (scions) onto these, which would make these seedlings your eventual rootstock (after seedling grows for about 2 years or 1/8 in). Or these seedlings could be used for bonsai, or just planted as is and they would just be considered Acer Palmatum Red Japanese Maple, not a Bloodgood unless it's grafted. Hope this helps (8 years later)!...See MoreJapanese Maple Seedlings(Red or Bloodgood)
Comments (5)You usually can't grow bloodgood from seed, because they have to be grafted. There's a nice large red maple called acer nigrum that you can get seed for and doesn't require grafting. If you're interested in growing your own seed then you can try this place http://www.sheffields.com/catalog/search.lasso?-Token.Z=12645428185 enter acer palmatum (that's plain JM and it will probably show you all kinds of acers.) If that link doesn't work for you then just look up sheffields seed company...See MoreMy Japanese Maple Leaves are turning green
Comments (3)What kind of Japanese maple is it? When you refer to the "parent tree", does that mean this one is a seedling of a larger, established tree? If so, there can be considerable variability between the parent and the offspring with one often bearing very little resemblance to the other. And of course you do realize that Japanese maples come in a very broad range of leaf colors and that many selections go through a series of colors through the seasons, red being only one. And the amount of sunlight the tree receives can also impact leaf color, especially in midsummer....See Morerjj1
