I grew it in a large pot outdoors last year, and it was lovely, growing to be about 2 feet tall. This year, I replanted it in the same pot, with approximately the same result. I also planted a clump of about 5 plants in the flower garden proper. Those plants have grown taller than I am. I am 5'4''. Being root bound must make for miniatures. I have noticed something this year that I did not see last year. One of the plants in the pot and two of the plants in the garden have ONE snowy white cluster, with the rest being crimson. Have any of you experienced that? Any idea or theory about what the significance might be?

My experience with amaranth...years ago I started some seeds indoors (it's a red amaranthus, forgot which one). It has sown itself all over my garden like weeds over the years. I let a few grow in a spot where I want it, and pull all the others as I get the garden ready in spring. SO...just scatter the seeds now and forget it. Winter sowing amaranth should be directly on the ground in cool weather, much like poppies and nigella and larkspur. I live just north of you in the Hudson Valley. The plants themselves die over winter, so if you really want to baby that plant, bring it indoors. But I would just start over in early spring.

So Shule what are you going to do with the rest of the seeds? Those ama.r seeds sprouted and the plants are crowded into a 24" by 12" area....surrounded by 2 by 2,s and hdwe, cloth covered.... I grew them for my " girls" but they range a big area so they look like they werent even messed with. I had also put some black oil sunflower seeds there too. but some blankety blank good for nuttin bugs were on them. RAH... I prob used too strong of a a mixture of Organix I had in a sprayer trying to kill the insects.... too tiny to pick off.. But what is a funny is that I took one of the many "weeds" to county extention here. Agent lady said it was PIGWEED... told me over the phone..... funny cause I read that its a type of Amaranthus....so can we eat it? can my "Girls" eat it.... heck they might do so unbeknown to me. since they have 1/2 acre plus to roam... LOl going to let them out and run the rest of the place in a few minutes.. thanks all
