Comments (2)I grow mine all from seed, never a problem.Mine come out of the GH and are planted out right away in ground or in containers. Not sure why you have it in the house.I would take them back to the place you bought them and ask them.Maybe an insect problem?...See MoreGrowing peas and sweet peas in the garden
Comments (7)Yes, I plant sweet peas almost every year, usually at one end or the other of one of my regular rows of peas. The major "problem" with them is the weather. They are kind of a gamble here. If it's a cool to average year, they are fine and can be very beautiful. If its a hot year, they may fizzle out prematurely without having many flowers. The other problem with them is critters. I have had them chewed up pretty badly by woodchucks or rabbits, but this doesn't seem to happen ever time, so I think there are other things that animals might prefer. The earlier you plant them, the better they seem to do -- sow as soon as the soil can be worked. As long as the summer isn't excessively hot (upper 80s and 90s), if you dead head them, they'll bloom quite a bit longer....See MoreWhen Do People Start Growing Indoors For Spring Planting?
Comments (15)Would like to grow tomatos, cucumbers, squash, melons, roots crops, peas Cucumber, squash, melons, and most root crops are best direct seeded rather than used as transplants. Same goes for peas. This is not to say that some of them can't be started as transplants, just that most studies show they do quite a bit better if direct seeded. So that just leaves tomatoes on your list. ;) They should be started approx. 6-8 weeks before your transplant out date. Starting transplants months earlier, unless one has quite the ideal set-up such as a greenhouse would provide, only results in spindly, leggy transplants that are stressed. They don't tolerate the required hardening-off period and don't transplant well and are often more susceptible to disease and pest problems because of the stress they have endured. Comments (43)yeah It's been cold on my end too. I'm waiting for a good warming to start off the seeds. I get my sweetpeas from a company that sells heirloom seeds. Their plants are so fragrant and so bright. I was wondering about experimenting on sweet peas. Since they do well only in cool weather and start looking old by summer, I was wondering what if I plant them again in late august so that by sept and early oct. I would have flowes again? I just wonder. it may work. What do you think?...See Moremmqchdygg
