Broken birdbath

My youngest granddaughter was playing in the water and knocked the bowl off and it broke (2 pieces along the rim). It is concrete and it was my grandmothers. Any suggestions for how to repair it? It is very simple in design and the breaks were pretty clean. It holds alot of sentimental value for me. I'd like for it to hold water again but its not necessary. Poor granddaughter and daughter were both apologizing for breaking it. I'm just glad she didn't get hurt when it fell off as the bowl is very heavy and she's only 2. Thanks for all your help and suggestions.

Hmmm...I'm sure an expert will come along behind me,and give better advice...but...I am thinking that Liquid Nails should work.It's strong,just a thought.

Yep, I'd go to Lowe's or HD, whatever you have there. Go to the adhesive section and read the labels. Probably Liquid Nails would be a good one, I have actualy used it to place certain rocks exactly where I want them in the waterfall. Pretty good stuff, Comes in a tube like caulking, so you'll need a caulking gun to apply.

I got lucky browsing junk stores yesterday. The proprietor of one was grateful that DH, who is an amateur collector of blown glass decanters, helped her get the correct stoppers matched to an unusual, multi-part decanter she had for sale so she gave us a 14", plastic plant saucer in a neutral beige and a reasonably tasteful macrame plant holder free. I just have to drill holes for the holder's hooks and find the right-sized chunk of broken, concrete paver to get the weight and balance right. It won't be anything to turn cartwheels over, but it won't look like junk. BTW -- the glass pieces are quite striking. Definitely something one could proudly display front and center as the focal pice of a yard. But I think that it would be unwise in my location. Sunlight focusing through the glass could potentially start a fire in the dry pine straw that is so ubiquitous here and which is my primary garden and landscape mulch.

That is very unique. I really like it. That is really cool that your wives parents have the same bird bath. I was a senior in 1979 too. And 20 dollars was a lot of money! Well the bird bath was well worth it and it has given you many years of enjoyment! Its in the perfect setting(-: Thanks for sharing the picture.

I feel your excitement. You did a fabulous job on that table. Wish I had a larger picture. Great totem too. What kind of adhesive did you use on it for it to have fallen apart? IF it happens again, may I suggest GE II - silicon for windows and doors. My totem has been standing for over four yrs. outside, and that's what I used. I got the idea off Garden Junk. slow - gorgeous as usual! Love your wonderful style....the heart turned out so perfectly! May have mentioned it before, but one day when you're down here visting Shea, take a trip to the Goodwill in Garland (sort of on the Garland/Mesquite border - on Saturn Rd, I think). They've got TONS of plates, so many last time I was there that they were stacked 2' deep on the floor in front of the 8-10' gondola that also housed stacks and stacks and stacks of them! Don't know what it is about that area, but nice/pretty/patterened plates are abundant. Pat

Thanks for the replies. I knew if I posted here I'd get some good advice. I'll be on the way probably this weekend.

I had mine break into about 5! (darn squirrels!) I found the advice I took from this forum also, and it worked wonderfully. It is called "Plastic Fusion" and is a 2-part glue that you squeeze and both sides come out equally, and you mix it and apply. It dried a neutral blonde color and you can wipe the ooze off before it dries. My birdbath holds water, and you can barely tell it had cracked. I even filled in the chips with the glue. I found it at Home Depot. I have it right here "Fast-Set Plastic Fusion" - I've used it on tons of things since I bought it.

On a side note, on another tippy birdbath, I used Gorilla Glue and glued the top to the stem so it wouldn't tip. The Gorilla Glue foams and doubles in size to fill in everything - kind of like how "Great Stuff" works, but with glue. It wouldn't be good for your cracked birdbath because it would foam up, but it works on other things. You can actually chisel and chip the residue off it dries so hard.
