Very little difference in color, despite the different names. Uproar Rose is probably not very accurately named. The big difference between the two is that Uproar Rose is an actual F1 hybrid, while Benary Giant Purple is open pollinated.
I have grown Uproar Rose, and was very impressed with the high degree of uniformity they showed, versus open pollinated zinnias in general. The downside to any commercial F1 hybrid zinnia is the high cost of their seeds. If you need to make a big planting, seed cost can be a deciding factor. If you can afford the cost, Uproar Rose can make an attractive planting.
I think Uproar's plants look somewhat better than the Benarys, which are bred primarily for use as cut flowers. But if you pinch the Benarys, they can make decent looking landscape groupings, too, and at a lower cost.
If you pulled up my thread from 2011 entitled "Thrilled with My Zinnias", you will see pics of both in the same thread right underneath each other; this will help you see the color difference. They are similar, but Benary's is deeper in color and is a vibrant purple hue; the Uproar Rose is a vibrant purple-toned hot pink. (to those of us who are f-u-s-s-y, this is a notable distinction...)
Anyway, pull up that thread, you'll see what I mean :0)
I love them both and am growing both again this year.
Thanks, Y'all. That's just what I wanted to know. I bought seeds for both, but now I will put them in different beds. I bought my seed from Hazzard's, and yes, the Uproars are more costly, but far more reasonable in the 100 packs that Hazzards sells. Ditto for Zowies, which I also love.
