Da Bears....Monday night!!

Never would have believed it.......well, maybe after the 2 games in a row in 2001 with Brown interceptions and pulling it out. Strangest game I have ever seen!

I can't say we deserved to win over Az. but it sure was nice!

It was so ugly. I love my Bears and think Rex is truly going to be the greatest quarterback this franchise has ever had, but last night was pathetic. I know it's just part of his learning curve, but did he have to do it on MNF??? If it weren't for Urlacher and Hester, we'd be sitting with egg on our faces.

Ah well, the bye is next week. I hope the coaches really take the team to task and get them better focused for the rest of the season. Maybe some of the undefeated talk will die down now, which would be a good thing.

As Lovie says, we haven't won anything yet.

TA DA! First quilt finished, finally

When I came to the crooked corners, I just kind of guessed at it. The rest of it worked well. I decided it was fine and went on down the road. I couldn't change it, so I might as well be happy with it. And I am. For my first quilt, I'm really pleased. Of course, there are several mistakes. On some, I was too far down the road to fix them. On others, I was tired of Mr. Seamripper. I learned a lot about cutting accurately (I also bought an Accuquilt.) and how much a small mistake gets bigger. Same with 1/4" seams. I've tried two different feet, the old thing you screw into the bed of machine (I'm into vintage machines) and painters tape. I bought a laser at Harbor Freight last week, but haven't figured out how to put it on the machine. So, all and all, my sewing and cutting skills are improving. Still lots of room left, though. bkay

Anyone grow both Princess Charlene de Monaco and DA’s Boscobel?

Lol, ok I can see that being funny “haha”, as long as that Tacca(sp?) plant puts out more than one bloom per season. I’ve always wanted to grow the white version, but it’s just so dry here! They’re so exotic looking. I know they can be grown indoors, but I run the A/C like crazy all summer, so it’s dry indoors too. Im finally posting the pictures of my pruned Princess Charlene de Monaco. Diane had me second guessing myself for a bit, but no, this is how I’ve always treated HT’s. I noticed around town that all the HT’s were pruned down to 12-18”, as well, so it must be a So CA thing. If I wanted PCDM to cover an arbor, I wouldn’t do this, but I need all the space I can get. My sweet peas need a place to climb while the giant roses have been cut back. This is what’s left of her. I’d like to cut that central and left cane a little shorter, but either my pruners are getting dull, or I’m getting weaker. I hope it’s the former, but fear it’s the latter. If I can remember to ask one of my sons, I’ll have him trim it a little shorter. Those canes are SO thick! I couldn’t cut through them any lower, even with my good Felco’s. These were taken near dark, so they’re not the best. This is PCDM #2 next to #1. The first one was just like it a year ago. She grew fast! These 6 blooms/buds were my reason for leaving the few long canes unpruned. Was it worth it? It certainly was! Having 6 of these beauties in early February is definitely worth leaving the canes on for a few extra weeks. Look at those long stems. Some buds are a little bug damaged, and twisted at the neck, but I’m glad to have them. I really love this rose! Lisa

DA roses arriving but night temperature still below 40, what to do?
Q

Hi Sbrklyn - Definitely not too cold to plant your bareroots. When planting them during this time when nighttime temps are in the 30s and 40s gives them time to get established and form fine roots before the heat of late spring and summer arrive. As far as fertilizers go, you do not need to fertilize your new roses their first year. You could give them some diluted organic liquid fertilizer such as fish emulsion, otherwise you risk burning the new fine roots. The second year and on, you can fertilize with a granular fertilizer. Unless your Eden grew very large in its first year, I would also pass on pruning it - other than any dead or spindly growth. Your going to do just fine! Roses are pretty tough and quite forgiving.

Another porch vote. Yey for the arrival...Who knows who ships anymore and who doesn't? I am waiting for a couple of roses from Edmund's and High Country Roses but have not heard anything back yet. I am thinking to write them to check on approximate shipment date. Your event is encouraging though.

The Bears were "very lucky" to win that game. Their heads were so consumed with their thoughts of being the greatest team-funny to watch them get put in their place (if only for a little bit anyway). They played pretty bad for being 5-0...until 4th quarter. Arizona showed it does have what it takes to be a great team!! Matt was fantastic-showed everyone that he knows what to do and did it. A shame that their kicker missed. That was unreal. Their next game against the Raiders ought to give them a win!! Just what they need too....Oakland is pathetic.

We can hand that win to Rakers! I was thrilled to see the Bears pull it out, but it was only by the fault of the missed field goal. We needed that to help us get our heads back in the game. I'm loving Lovie Smith. Bye week this week and that makes me happy that my guys get a break!

6-0 baby....we didn't deserve it, but we got it!

A win is a win said my DD, she will take it anyway she can! LOL
I couldn't believe it when I got up the next morning and heard the Bears won!
DD sorta jumped on her DH's ship for the Bears after they were married, after watching the Falcon's Sunday I am thinking about it too.
