Cultured Stone Fireplace Inset (to stone or not to stone)
Comments (2)Do you have any photos of how you want it to look? I would also worry about the cave effect. We have had a tv ( for movies, not actual tv) over a fireplace in our basement for years but it is a gas FP and therefore the heat can be turned off or down very quickly, unlike a wood fire that burns for hours. If you have a massive Fp I would probably make sure there is a goof layer of heat resistant material above it....See MoreA Cottage Style Old World Stone Fireplace - What Stone Fits This?
Comments (9)I really like oakleyoak's pic, too. We are in the process of completing our own fireplace. I would think rustic fieldstone (mortared) would give a nice old world look. Or you could try a stone done in a dry stack effect (just looks like stones stacked on one another). But the mortared irregular fieldstones might give a nice effect. Our own fireplace is very rustic but with a different look. We have a raised hearth and used shadow ledgestone done in a dry stack (no mortar), it is a stone veneer and looks very rustic. Surrounding the firebox we have tumbled multicolor slate tiles, then an oak mantel/surround in a craftsman style. The drywall above the mantel is tapered back to the other walls. Hope this helps. Comments (8)That accent color is the wrong shade. you want something that works w/the brick. I like your artwork on the mantle, but you need a potted plant, maybe a basket or something w/texture on the hearth. Look into how to style a mantle so it doesn't look so even w/your prints. try bringing in some items w/diff heights, like the tall vase on the end. try stacking up your prints. something like this. see what they did on this hearth? if you must do an accent, I'd go w/the canyon clay or the Redend Point. Otherwise, just paint all the walls any of these shades if you want darker but nothing in the red range, try some of these warmer, darker tones. For any of the white trim, use these two on the bottom. both have pink undertones. you don't want a yellow or blue white I'd go w/more of a MCM type of design. right now it looks like Grandmas house circa 1958. try some furniture like shown in these pics you can add color w/accessories like they did here. art, white walls mcm inispired items Try Article for a chair like this^ I actually have one for my own living room. A vintage walnut mcm piece would also fit w/your fireplace design. I photoshopped yours onto this photo. see the vintage style furniture and how well it works? don't forget a potted plant or two. this rug is wool, more of a southwestern style. You could look at some of these colors (bottom left corner). you can see how the slate blue tone works w/the pink. I put your fireplace next to this sofa (also try Article) Furniture / style ideas if you go w/a dark accent wall, bring in warm walnut, textures (like jute/woven pieces) and Black! Go w/a lighter rug photoshpped your fireplace onto this one. more of a country casual if you stay solid w/everything like shown here, you could do a rug like this WITH the same tonal colors to the stonework....See MoreCast Stone Fireplace Surround information
Comments (2)MY suggestion is you make a trip to the place supplying your FP and no to this type of purchase on line. Here we do not even know what the FP looks like for me a see through is not a choice I would make but at least post a pic of thta . Cast stone is a funny name since you do not cast stone but we do not even know your style ....See MoreRebecca Mitchell Interiors
