Cultured Stone Fireplace Inset (to stone or not to stone)

We are installing a cultured stone surround around our gas fireplace and will have our 50" TV above. We have an inset that will house a 60" TV if we plan to purchase a bigger one in the future. The TV will sit on a wall mount so we can pull it out, tilt etc. The question I have is this: We originally were planning to have the culture stone run along the whole face of the surround up to the ceiling as well as have the inset stone so that visually everything will match no matter what size of tv, how it's tilted etc, it will look nice. It was nicely suggested to us that having it all stone may look "cave like" and know we are second guessing ourselves. I don't care about the cost I just want it to look as nice as possible.

Also, I know people may want to advise against the tv above the fireplace but we did have this in our previous home and are aware of what we are getting into. But thank you anyway!

do the stone all over. just make sure to pick a smaller stone, like the stacked stone look so it won't look cavelike.

Do you have any photos of how you want it to look? I would also worry about the cave effect.

We have had a tv ( for movies, not actual tv) over a fireplace in our basement for years but it is a gas FP and therefore the heat can be turned off or down very quickly, unlike a wood fire that burns for hours. If you have a massive Fp I would probably make sure there is a goof layer of heat resistant material above it.

Thx all for comments - Tenax and concrete stain will look into. I think 511 is pretty much the same as Aqua Mix. I think part of the problem is because the "stone" is concrete, the sealer I've used so far is getting absorbed too well into it. The Aqua Mix leaves no visible top coating. My next try will be StoneTech Enhancer Pro (solvent based not water based, not that the solvent / medium matters). Maybe I'm deluding (or is it diluting??) myself. :)

I do not have an image of any house I designed in that manner. the placement of the stones and the application of the mortar are key in making the stone look good.
