Any regrets with Quartz countertops? Any difference between Silestone and Ceasarstone?

I'm leaning towards Quartz countertops in my kitchen rennovation -- I love the consistent pattern look and think they'll hold up to our tough family. Does anyone have any regrets with purchasing quartz? Anything you wish you had know about one brand versus the other? Thanks!

I am looking for the same as well and am considering Chroma. It is said to be the same as Caesar stone but much less expensive. Is this the true/

We have had Caesarstone in our busy family's kitchen for 6 years and it is terrific. Holds up beautifully, requires no maintenance. Just know that although salespeople may tell you that you can put hot pots down on it, the technicians tell you that you really shouldn't.

I live in California. Most granite/marble/quartz here is 2cm although 3cm can be found. Cabinets have to be level no matter what. I have Caesarstone on my perimeter counters that are 3cm with no laminated edge. My island is 2cm marble with a mitered edge that doubled it to 4cm. My butcherblock counter is about 1 1/2" thick (a little less than 4cm). So all counters are a different thickness and I don't even notice the difference in thicknesses. I think the thinner edge is slightly more contemporary looking, but it's really up to what you like. Plywood with metal supports on the island before the marble was installed: 3cm Caesarstone (Arctic White), 2cm marble, 1.5" butcherblock:

Silestone 'leather' versus Ceasarstone 'honed' maintenance

I have Caesarstone in a honed finish. The color has been discontinued (sadly), but it is a sandstone-type color. Regarding the "metal marks" mentioned above -- if a metal pan is dragged across the surface, it leaves a dark mark. I have AllClad pans in the "Master Chef" finish, which is a matte aluminum exterior. This may be more prone to leaving marks than a polished stainless, for example. My countertop fabricators left me with a can of Ajax when they did the counters a few years ago, and advised me to use it whenever there was any kind of staining on the countertop. I have done so, and it is 100% reliable at removing any marks, including these metal marks as well as ink (from a grocery bag). It's really not something that I worry about at all, and I *love* my honed counters. Now I'm making some changes in the kitchen, and since my color has been discontinued, I'm faced with replacing my counters. Caesarstone has fewer honed colors now, and it's very disappointing because I hate the way that polished surfaces reflect my lighting.

Our kitchen (addition on a 100 year old house) is 10" by 30". We don't have a peninsula and just have an eating area with an oval table at the end of the space furthest from our dining room. Our set up is that on one side we have a long L that is our primary work space. The range is on the short leg of the L, and the sink and lots of counters are on the long end of the L. Across the room we have perhaps another 6 or 7 feet of counters that then merge into a built in with a wall oven combo, a fridge, and a closet (this part opens into the eating area). So, this entire set up ends just about across from the end of the counters on the long L. Our main gripe is that, when we have people over, the passageway between the short leg of the L and the opposite counters can get congested. We did not just want to do a galley between the two walls, and the room size (width) dictated that the passageway is only 30". Wider would have been better, but it would also have meant either no L or else a really teeny short leg on the short leg of the L (ours is just under 6'). This is something I'd definitely think about if I were you. And, I really think a peninsula would only work in a situation similar to mine if the opposite wall did not have any cabinetry. Thanks to everyone for the lively discussion and thoughtful comments! Sweeby: I am thinking 18" spacing between the wall cabs and countertop because I think I might feel closed-in and claustrophobic with anything lower (just based on photos and some of the models in kitchen stores). I use only a regular blender and don't have any other tall appliances. I love the idea of a deeper 30" counter with the cabinets coming all the way down, but I don't think I have the space for it. The original kitchen is 8 x 8 x 8 and I taking in a corner from the living area into the kitchen (had posted about this corner in a separate topic on this forum). Here is the planned layout. A 30-inch deep counter run is probably ruled out. However, I am thinking of doing standard counter heights on the window side. Cooktop side and the peninsula could be 34". Cotehele, I hadn't thought of the oven not fitting or being too low. This is the oven that I am considering and it looks like it might not fit with 34" countertop height. One option might be to place the oven on the window side, but I thinking this will be less than optimal as I don't like having the oven next to the sink. I prefer the placement I have in the layout as it seems to give more space for baking activities. Will definitely discuss this with my GC. If the oven is too low, that is a compromise I might have to live with as the space seems so tight given everything that I want to do in it.

We have quartz countertops in two kitchens. Love them, and have never had a problem. We chose Cambria for one, in part because it’s American made.

Cambria is the Rolls Royce of engineered quartz: but they have a transferable, life time guarantee. Silestone guarantee is 25 years, non-transferable. Ceasarstone was the first (original) engineered countertop--but its warranty is very limited--depending on where you buy, it is only 10 to 15 years.

We had a problem with our grey Ceasarstone. The company claims that it is heat protected up to 300F. However we had a sous-vide for an hour at 132F and it left a bad mark. We are also seeing other marks showing up and don’t know what is causing them. Ceasarstone was very rude to us, they were no help and did not stand by their product. I would go with quartz but not Ceasarstone.

Both are good products, but I prefer Silestone and Dekton (both made by Cosentino) because the patterns tend to look less fake, especially if you're going for a faux marble look or faux concrete look.

I’ve had quartz for 18 years in 2 different heavy use kitchens (both Silestone and Caesarstone) and no issues. We are careful about not putting hot pans on counters but that’s about it—no staining issues with either. Love them!!

I had Silestone (color soapstone) countertops installed in my kitchen remodeling about 2 years ago. They look as good as the day of installation. I love the carefree maintenance. I always use silpat sheets or trivets under my crockpot and air fryer and any hot dishes. I always did this anyway in my old kitchen too. I wipe down the counters with dishsoap or Mrs. Meyers multi surface cleaner. I love my countertops❣️

I have Calacatta Gold From Silestone. We’ve managed to stain it already. Two times. One is a ring of probably rust under our cast iron pan. I didn’t realize it was there till we saw the stain. It’s gotten lighter but not completely removed. The other is when my kid used a sharpie, it was a light blue sharpie so the marks are very faint. Might even be gone now.
