Any regrets with Quartz countertops? Any difference between Silestone and Ceasarstone?

Comments (10)I live in California. Most granite/marble/quartz here is 2cm although 3cm can be found. Cabinets have to be level no matter what. I have Caesarstone on my perimeter counters that are 3cm with no laminated edge. My island is 2cm marble with a mitered edge that doubled it to 4cm. My butcherblock counter is about 1 1/2" thick (a little less than 4cm). So all counters are a different thickness and I don't even notice the difference in thicknesses. I think the thinner edge is slightly more contemporary looking, but it's really up to what you like. Comments (14)I have Caesarstone in a honed finish. The color has been discontinued (sadly), but it is a sandstone-type color. Regarding the "metal marks" mentioned above -- if a metal pan is dragged across the surface, it leaves a dark mark. I have AllClad pans in the "Master Chef" finish, which is a matte aluminum exterior. This may be more prone to leaving marks than a polished stainless, for example. My countertop fabricators left me with a can of Ajax when they did the counters a few years ago, and advised me to use it whenever there was any kind of staining on the countertop. I have done so, and it is 100% reliable at removing any marks, including these metal marks as well as ink (from a grocery bag). It's really not something that I worry about at all, and I *love* my honed counters. Now I'm making some changes in the kitchen, and since my color has been discontinued, I'm faced with replacing my counters. Comments (14)Our kitchen (addition on a 100 year old house) is 10" by 30". We don't have a peninsula and just have an eating area with an oval table at the end of the space furthest from our dining room. Our set up is that on one side we have a long L that is our primary work space. The range is on the short leg of the L, and the sink and lots of counters are on the long end of the L. Across the room we have perhaps another 6 or 7 feet of counters that then merge into a built in with a wall oven combo, a fridge, and a closet (this part opens into the eating area). So, this entire set up ends just about across from the end of the counters on the long L. Our main gripe is that, when we have people over, the passageway between the short leg of the L and the opposite counters can get congested. We did not just want to do a galley between the two walls, and the room size (width) dictated that the passageway is only 30". Wider would have been better, but it would also have meant either no L or else a really teeny short leg on the short leg of the L (ours is just under 6'). This is something I'd definitely think about if I were you. And, I really think a peninsula would only work in a situation similar to mine if the opposite wall did not have any cabinetry. Sweeby: I am thinking 18" spacing between the wall cabs and countertop because I think I might feel closed-in and claustrophobic with anything lower (just based on photos and some of the models in kitchen stores). I use only a regular blender and don't have any other tall appliances. I love the idea of a deeper 30" counter with the cabinets coming all the way down, but I don't think I have the space for it. The original kitchen is 8 x 8 x 8 and I taking in a corner from the living area into the kitchen (had posted about this corner in a separate topic on this forum). Here is the planned layout. A 30-inch deep counter run is probably ruled out. However, I am thinking of doing standard counter heights on the window side. Cooktop side and the peninsula could be 34". Cotehele, I hadn't thought of the oven not fitting or being too low. This is the oven that I am considering and it looks like it might not fit with 34" countertop height. One option might be to place the oven on the window side, but I thinking this will be less than optimal as I don't like having the oven next to the sink. I prefer the placement I have in the layout as it seems to give more space for baking activities. Will definitely discuss this with my GC. If the oven is too low, that is a compromise I might have to live with as the space seems so tight given everything that I want to do in it....See MoreNoreen Wynne
