One of my friend's kids was whining one day that they spent more money on the dog than they did her, and Momma retorted "Yeah well the dog is nicer to me than you are." 😆
The costs of vet care are skyrocketing, like everything. Still the best cost / benefit ratio around though, IMO. I don't have human children, but my dogs are my furry kids and wow do they add so much joy to my life. Also, they get me up off my butt for 4 long walks around the neighborhood every day. I know most of my neighbors thanks to those walks and the exercise is good for all of us.
at this point, after all you've been through recently, taking a break is a wise decision.
i'll just put this out here in case you, and maybe others reading this thread are unaware...rawhide chews are not a good idea for any dog. they are notorious for causing blockages that more often than not, will require abdominal surgery to remove. i don't know why stores even sell these!

A life truism for everything - sometimes it's about living in a mansion, sometimes it's about living in a heritage farmhouse. Sometimes it's about living in the city of 2 million, or living in a small town of 2000. Yet, I don't think it's about finding out the dream isn't as dreamy, it's about changing lives, priorities, and preferences.
To me, those changes are a normal part of life, and changing dreams is to be expected and welcomed, not regretted or resisted.
Carol, he has no trouble swallowing his food, so I don't think that's it. I could put something absorbent under his water bowl--good idea, thanks!--but I'll still have to clean up the path he makes when he leaves that area (many times a day). I taught my kids with their wet boots, "Water is the enemy of wood," but Rocky doesn't get it. :-)
I'll look those up tomorrow. Thanks, Llindsey and Beesneeds! All Rocky's dishes are stainless steel. Many years ago it occurred to me that our dogs were living proportionally longer than our cats, and I wondered why. When I realized the dogs ate out of stainless dishes, but the cats' dishes were plastic, I got rid of the latter and bought stainless for all. I don't know if the change contributed to their longevity, but it was a good thing to do.

The reason I posted was to get an idea of whether the picture was a real picture, because Fox's reputation precedes them. These days AI can make a picture of almost anything, just because something appears to be a photo does not make it so. So I wanted to get a reality check from the many KT members who actually live in California and see gas stations there.

I don't fit your propaganda-driven political description. I don't regularly watch TV news, not either of the two you mention. It's typically only occasionally when I'll look in on what I still think of as legacy broadcast network news for something major going on.
It doesn't take much in the way of powers of perception or analysis to recognize that the national version of Fox News is as biased and unidimensional as could be possible. Maybe MSNBC is like that too. I can see an obvious slant in the tone of reporting when it's present.
If you don't see the blatant bias of Fox then you're in its target audience. Too bad.
No doubt that gas price pic above is real in California, ave price here is about $3.45/gal right now. As for bias in the news media, yes fox, msnbc, cnn, etc show bias. I don't mind bias as long as it's truthful bias which bases it's bias on the facts. The night time line up on fox bases most of their bias on rumors, accusations, and innuendo more than the facts. One of these nights Laura Ingraham's necklace is going to burst into flames. The most straight news still comes on for 30 minutes in the evening on the 3 major networks, they're not perfect but they just report the news of the day as unbiased as they can.
