Our design team created a concept of a “Water-wise Tropical Paradise”, bursting with color, shiny textures, lush foliage, and small palm tree varieties. Turf was converted to garden beds, and low-volume, low-pressure drip irrigation was installed.

2025 Alpine Strawberries are extremely hardy (zone 3), and tolerate being grown in containers or in raised beds, and can overwinter in the Ottawa area. (This is not the case for the larger strawberries, nearly all of which which are only hardy to Canada zone 4/5; if grown in the ground - but they generally do not overwinter well in raised containers). These Alpine strawberries were planted in the fall of 2024, and as shown, overwintered well in the Sproutbox containers.

TROPICAL LOOKS: Canna grow well on S facing balconies in the warm weather, but must be overwintered inside in our climate. The blossoms are so vivid and cheerful! Also shown are bougainvillea, which are a lovely climbing vine which can be grown in containers; they also must be over-wintered. If you're bothered about thorns, a few thornless varieties of bougainvillea have now been developed.

This hardy palm tree has overwintered outdoors for the past 3 winters, using a special technique from a grower/horticulturalist in the Montreal area. With this technique, he has successfully overwintered palm trees in zones USDA 3-5/Canadian zones 4-6 for the past decade.
