We didn't get a quote for full overlay, but inset was only $900 more than the quote for partial overlay, with concealed hinges. I can't imagine that full would be less than partial. For partial wrap hinges and magnetic closures (for cabinets), it was $1500 more. We have switched to mostly drawers, so our latest quote may be a little different. It was worth the $900 to us, which was a lot less difference than I expected to see.

It's not how much of the frame that's being covered that I'm wondering about. It's how thick the door looks. For instance, in my parents 1960's home, the built on site cabinets had doors and drawer fronts that had quarter round edges but were flat on the inside and they were around 1/2" thick. Crown Point has the same look but the door is really 3/4" thick except where it overlays the frame. I'm not sure if they will look odd when opened as I've never seen cabinet doors look like this. (That's not saying much because I don't know anyone with partial overlay cabinets and the only ones I've seen in showrooms have a 3/4" door that doesn't taper). I'm also not sure I can do exposed hinges if the door is rabbeted vs flat. Am I making sense yet?

Cotehele kitchens is one of my favorites! Personally, I am not in love with full overlay. I really like inset. Used to be in love with inset. Then, since inset never loved me back, I got over inset. Last kitchen we had half inch overlay and I loved the cabinets. I got the wood and stain I wanted, along with the door style, and I was happy. This time around, I was very upset that the cabinet company I was going with did not offer half inch. Only in one door style. A five panel raised that I did not love. I wanted slab doors in half inch overlay. Because of cost, and really...because I couldn't think of actually having full overlay, I went with the five panel raised door in half inch. And I am so excited to get them! To me, full overlay looks very 90's. It is the norm/standard and I don't think it is hideous or anything. In fact, I swoon over many kitchens with full overlay. Just I think that 1/2" works well as traditional, modern, classic...the works!

With full overlay, you get door hitting knobs of adjacent cabinets sometimes. Sometimes you can prevent this by hinging doors left or right. I've seen cabinets dented by this. Or doors hitting adjacent deeper hoods/pantries/walls....etc. With inset the only difficult part to clean is right under the quides on the framework. Our coffee pot when Kaput over the weekend and coffee flowed out for the entire cylce until we noticed it. Clean up wasn't any harder or easier. Except for the drawer openings right under the guides. But I can pull the entire drawer out! I have NO regrets with my inset so far. They are awesome! Kompy
