Shelia: I've always held that what was put together with screws and/or nuts and bolts, can be taken apart, but there may be sealant between the glass and the frame, so carefully breaking the seal might be your first need. But first, and foremost, before you touch it, mark (number) every piece of glass with a marking pen. (it will clean off easily later). It's probably best to use self stick labels on the aluminum frame. Make the numbers on the frame labels large enough to be able to read them in photos. Then, after it's as labeled as you can get it, take lots and lots of photos of every part of it, for reassembly reference. As for hauling it, if you don't have a truck, rent a trailer. You shouldn't need anything larger than the longest length of aluminum, so a 4 X 10 ft. flatbed should be large enough, and would be a lot cheaper than renting a truck. Just make sure you take good length of rope and a bunch of bungee cords and/or ratchet tie downs. Also take a roll of heavy plastic, sissors to cut it, a roll of packaging tape and old blankets, to pad between the glass sheets. If you lay the wrapped glass down flat on the bed of the trailer, then the wrapped bundles of aluminum pieces, which won't be that heavy, especially if you spread the weight out, it should not crack the glass. If you need a bunch of blankets and don't want to use your own bedding (I wouldn't), hit your local thrift. Or, many trailer rental places also rent padded furniture moving blankets. You didn't state if any of the glass pieces were curved. If they are, those are the ones to protect especially well, and should be laid, curved side up, atop everything else. BTW: You could also lay a large piece of heavy plastic, or tarp onto the bed, with enough overage to bundle the whole thing up after it's loaded. If the bundles of pieces are secured, overwrapping then tying down the tarp should prevent any damage in transit. Good luck.

are you finding it hard.. to water... on your little outhouse/hosta hill ... later in the season.. it will be imperative.. to insure.. that the water stays long enough.. to soak in thru the whole root mass ... prior to running off .. that might get really hard in the high heat of the summer when the soil has the potential to be water repellant until the water can break surface tension ... brilliant work ... playing in the dirt eh ???? ken

A better solution might to be to select a washer and dryer that would fit down the stairs. I know both my FL Miele and Asko machines would, but there are other brands as well (poss. Bosch, the so-called Frigemore line, etc.) Don't be fooled by the apparent smaller sizes of these FLs. Mine will do as much laundry as a large capacity TL machines. If worse came to worse, then I would consider taking off part of the door trim (and reinstalling with screws to make it easier to remove again, if needed. I know the insides of my washing machines well, and while you could the case off, you wouldn't lose a lot of bulk, but you would make the whole shebang very unstable. I'd reccomend finding some other way to go. I'd even consider laying the machine down on its back and sliding it under the deck on a furniture moving dolly. Molly~

Be positive, just think, when all this plumbing stuff is taken care of, you will have the opportunity to reorganize your entire sewing / quilting room when you move everything back into it piece by piece. Every time I reorganized my small sewing space my little corner in the laundry room I find things I had forgotten about that I can use on future projects, it's always fun to find things with renewed interest that I had totally forgotten I had, so maybe you will find little treasures like that as you put it all back into your sewing / quilting room and as you do that is a great time to inventory your stash to see if you are in need of things or if you have extras to donate to others.
