Annual basement smell in spring

Marina Lehane

I’ve noticed a pattern with my 1950s house, every mid spring there’s a bad smell in the room under my kitchen in the basement. Once the weather gets better, it disappears. I’m in the Seattle area.

The room has a foundation wall on two sides, no mold visible anywhere, no wet walls or floor. Concrete slab, no crawlspace.

What could the cause be? Why always the same time of year? 5/9/22, 4/25/24 (cant find a date for 2023)

There was good weather recently and then it changed back to rain. Related somehow?
