Sinks! Blanco? Elkay? Granite Composite vs. Quartz Composite?
Comments (33)Hi Haley, Sorry I just saw your comment. Here are some photos I have in my archive. I can take different angles tonight if these aren't helpful. FWIW, 6 months later and we still love this sink. The dark color matches our black stainless appliances, but also just makes the sink more of a shadow, which is good to avoid drawing eyes to dirty dishes! We use the faucet hose+sprayer to give it a good rinse every evening after cleaning up dinner to keep food from drying in place. We've given it 1 deep cleaning (we also have a grid on the bottom, so deep cleaning involved a thorough cleaning of that, too). The water filter is good for filling water to cook or a tea kettle. The soap dispenser is actually really nice because it keeps the counter tidy. The faucet is touch activated (got it before the remodel) and it's amazingly handy. We added an air button for the disposal (which by code has to have a manual light switch on the wall, which for us is not in reach of the sink) and it has never been pressed accidentally and is very useful so I recommend it. The dishwasher air gap is required by code here so no avoiding that!...See MoreKohler sink...which one???
Comments (2)Here's a black Kohler that I replaced with stainless steel: Worn out and nasty. Don't let those little chips metastasize please. I don't know about Kohler's composite sinks, but I doubt I'd ever get a Blanco: I don't care if they did invent the stuff, I've replaced too many cracked, fading, leakers. I installed this Elkay Quartz Luxe three years ago. The lady sold the house and I'm installing the same sink again, so she must have liked it. She sold three sinks for me....See MoreKohler cast iron sink or American Standard or . . . some other brand?
Comments (23)I agree, I would also call American Standard. It should not have cracked that easily. I had a 30 yr old drop in (avocado green, no less) Kohler in one house for 30 yrs. I am not particularly careful, with my sinks. I clean paint brushes, and any number of things in them. It looked as good the day, I moved out, as it did the day I moved in. In the next house, I bought a new double bowl Kohler drop in sink in white right after we moved in. 18 yrs later we sold that house and bought this one, and that sink still looked new. In this house, I have the exact same sink (not installed by me). No idea how old it is, but looked new when I moved in, and still looks new, except, that I want to replace it with black. I believe this one is called Brookhaven, and has the center drains. Could be wrong on the name. I know you want a farmhouse type and undermount, but, quality should be the same....See MoreCopper Sink vs white granite composite
Comments (10)I have a copper sink from Havens Metal with a living finish. My faucet is Kohler Artifact in ORB finish and I have other copper accents in the kitchen. The sink doesn't look "dirty" but just has a variegated finish and it is fun to watch it change. For example, I had some barbecue chicken and the sink became shiny where the sauce was on it for a bit - and then it gradually acquires a patina again. I don't keep a grate on the bottom although I have one which I use as an extension of my counter since my sink is a ledge style with various accessories like the "grate". This enabled me to get a very large sink since a portion of the sink is used like a counter except better - ie. handwashed items can drain; produce can be washed over it and left to drain; anything messy that gets prepped is prepped right over the sink. In my experience it is lower maintenance that enamel (which I had previously - Kohler cast iron enamel) and stainless steel which I also had because clean up consists of wiping down the bottom with a sponge with some dish detergent versus having to keep "white" looking clean and SS shiny. ETA - If you decide to get a copper sink, make sure that it is a quality one with a "natural" finish. The copper sinks with the artificial factory finish require special care. I have one in my guest bathroom but it gets minimal use so I am not worried about taking off the finish and also the dark patina goes well with the rest of the finishes. I would not want a "living finish" in my bathroom....See Morejulieste
