Comments (6)Gray is definitely in! If you still want to stay a little traditional and still be modern, I thought these 12" x 24" porcelain (marble look-alike) tile looked pretty cool. Just installed these a few weeks ago. What kind of tub did you go with? Are you going tile with the surround?...See MoreHELP with partial bathroom remodel
Comments (9)wait for the flooring. once that tub comes out, you will have to match your tile and grout w/the older part. It will never look the same as being done at the same time. as for the vanity portion,,,,what a great spot. right now it's a waste of space. If you have the money right now, I'd do a new vanity, (they come w/the countertops and sinks) and a large tower on the side (minor plumbing adjustment to move things over to the right), or put one in the middle and get two separate vanities. This you can do now without having to worry about your flooring. do not waste your money putting a new granite top on those old, cheap cabinets. replace the entire thing. if you're really on a budget, look on craigslist. people sell vanities on there all the time. look for granite remnants, left over tile, etc. as for the mirror, if you remove it, the wall behind will need some light repair work. Or, you can leave the big mirror and frame it with some nice wood. go to a lumber yard, buy some nice 1x3 oak, cut it to to fit (give them the measurements and they'll do it), stain it and attach. New mirror. or get two separate mirrors like this, and use inexpensive tile for your backsplash. subways are .19 each. learn how to tile and put these on the wall. you have a large space that could be very, very nice. do it right,,,once! no piecemeal. look at pics showing 'large double vanities' to get ideas of what you want. do your make in there? then have a lower level countertop where you sit in the middle part....See MoreHow can I update this bathroom?
Comments (37)I'd love to see pics of the green bathroom. I've freshened one with baby blue tiles by scrubbing the tub and tile (tons of time and elbow grease), removed all caulk and most of the grout, re-grouted and caulked. I also replaced the floor, toilet and vanity. I think a good plan for your blue bath, when you are able, is to clean up the tile, add a white fabric shower curtain, have the floor polished, replace the vanity, faucet and light. Here is the one I restored. That's an Ikea vanity that goes well with the retro tile IMO. I'd stay with white paint and use art on the walls. Rather than paint the wood on the window how about a curtain or shade to draw the eye? I have two more bathrooms to tackle with old tile, one is off-white with gold speckles and the other with pink speckles. I'm thinking of covering the pink tile with wainscoting as it is in a powder room and the tile is part way up 3 walls. The gold speckles are subtle and I'll work with them as the room also has a shower stall I do not want to replace. The tile is in too good of shape to demo. Sometimes change is hard. Have you tried showing your Mom pictures and getting her involved in the planning? Regarding the door and trim, you really shouldn't paint unless there is a plan for the whole house. Are all the doors and trim wood? Would love to see the green bathroom!...See MoreWhere do I start to find tile for my new small bathroom?
Comments (19)Susie the bathroom does not exist yet lol! It will be rather small though, which is actually a good thing because I’d rather buy less tile & get something of high quality. It will be going on our second floor once we finish dormering our cape. All I know for sure is: * I’m planning on a larger shower in lieu of a tub. Unless UTIs suddenly become less terrible, I won’t be taking any baths anyway. Plus we have one downstairs. * I’m planning on floor to ceiling glass doors in the shower. * I kind of want a skylight? Is that crazy? * No subway tile (unless it barely resembles subway tile like in the examples below). Typical subway tile is too uniform for my taste. I think I prefer my tile to have more individual character. * I’d like some natural stone because I think it’s pretty & timeless. However somebody here mentioned it’s hard to take care of and that is a totally legitimate concern that I haven‘t considered. * I’m really trying to avoid anything trendy but I also really dig zellige tiles so I guess I’m planning on breaking my own rules. * Ideally I’d like to stay with “natural” colors. Warmer whites, maybe black?, stone, maybe like a light sage green (used sparingly) * None of that ”all grey farmhouse” nonsense that’s taken over New Jersey. I’ve incorporated a lot of warmth into my home in protest of this dying trend. * I don’t have the guts to use a patterned tile : / and perhaps most importantly: * I like mixing texture & finish- hence the interest in zellige tile...See Moreannalisota
