Do you love to read decorating blogs? Pls help.
Comments (11)I'm totally addicted to blogs, and I have a blog. I'll keep looking for the one you mentioned. You can google "design blogs" and get a list of popular ones. You can find them through Apartment Therapy, Houseblogging.com, and even magazines like House Beautiful and Better Homes and Gardens either have blogs on their websites or list them in issues. There've been many blogs mentioned here, like Southern Hospitality, A Country Farmhouse, For the Love of a House, to name a few. Once you get to a blog, they usually list blogs they read. Some I've been reading lately are An Urban Cottage (he's in Cambridge), Elements of Style (just moved to Newton Centre, MA), In the Little Yellow House (northern New Jersey), Your Home and Color Coach (Boston Metro West) and SoPo Cottage (Maine). I also like to read Martha Stewart's blog for a taste of lifestyles of the rich and famous. Other popular ones are Decor8, Centsational Girl, Colour Me Happy. If you like old houses there are some on myoldhouseonline.com....See MoreHelp me decorate these cubby shelves
Comments (20)I think it still needs some tweaking. Try rolling the towels and maybe doing a group of three in a triangular stack. That might fill up the entire area though. Maybe three washcloths done that way. The items almost seem too similar in size. I do like that it's monochromatic looking in color. I honestly think it would be easier to style if you could/would remove the cubbies and have basically three shelves in that box....See Morehow can I decorate my Vittsjo shelves with these items?
Comments (1)Hi Athena, You've got a cool space and a fun collection! Here are some things I would try: Separate the Vittsjo shelves along the wall with your art. (Leaning on the floor?) Left-to-right, I would put the double-wide away from the windows, then the art (stacked vertically if that works), then the single wide toward the windows. (Test the art placement with newspaper cutouts and painter's tape.) Make a grouping of your tall vases (blue on top of the Vittsjo, blue on the vanity table, white at the bottom of the Vittsjo) together on top of the Vittsjo. Place the lamp and the tallest plant (top of Vittsjo) on the vanity table - if the plant likes that light. You're doing well to give your accessories some height and importance by placing them on books. For a more glam look, you might look up "small decor riser black." You can buy them, make them, paint second hand ones, etc. Use them to give your crystals and accessories more of a museum-style importance. Try to arrange with just one accessory or grouping per shelf. If it needs to be a grouping, you could use the decor risers to make an Olympic medal ceremony setup in the middle, so the grouping reads as one visual thing. Your clear crystal is disappearing into the wall. Can you put something in it, like smaller crystals, flat gem vase fillers, etc.? Hope some of that helps! Comments (2)Input the term ‘style shelves’ under stories and you will get some great advice. There is room for improvement in the way yours are styled as right now there is a randomness to it. Grouping like items, considering scale, being thoughtful about open space, etc will result in a more visually pleasing outcome. Love your fireplace and built-ins, so you’ve got a great starting point....See Morechloebud
