Flooring Color to Replace Carpets

Have to replace carpet & decided on laminate or vinyl plank which now means I have to replace other rooms too(excluding kitchen/baths)

Have been looking for something that doesn’t have a rustic look or a ton of variation, possibly brown & blonde?

I’ve endlessly looked online but all the houses look new & much nicer than ours. Also, I detest the current paint & plan on something lighter and neutral. Appreciate any suggestions or specific colors!

The large sample closest to the door looks good. May I ask why an engineered hardwood is off the table?

Thank you, Gregmills84 ... Have read many positive reports on engineered hardwood versus real hardwood and the most important issue would be the cost ... I started to get information from Lowes just to get " my feet wet" in this type of floor... I consider this my "stepping stone" before I go to the "big boys" in the hardwood floor industry, which I am planning to do shortly ... I am in my preliminary steps in this project ... After I put together all the information I need, then I will analyze what I have at hand and will make a decision which hopefully will turn out to be a wise decision, based on all the information gathered ... I agree with carpet. The other option is cork flooring. Cork will have the necessary cushion and slip resistance that your family require without having the look of carpet. But SAFETY comes before FASHION! A slip on anything other than carpet or cork will cause bone breaks and lengthy stays in hospital. And once in hospital, elderly people often become infected with things like C. diff which has a HIGH "kill rate". The pain and loss of quality of life a broken bone brings aside, the last thing you want an elderly family member to go through is a serious - hospital acquired - infection. Carpet or cork. Think fashionable resale once you no longer have the "need" for safe, cushiony flooring.

In my-non pro opinion: Definitely get rid of all carpet asap. Hardwood flooring or tile is preferable; other plank/board flooring would still be an improvement over carpet. Would use the same for any one floor; however, if you have a specific reason for wanting a different wood flooring, turn the boards a different way so that when they meet, the new look is obviously intentional.

The very same hardwood you have now if at all possible. There is no better answer, and then add area rugs in whatever look , sty;e, color and size you want or need. Don't add a fake wood anything, don't add tile to the mix. Repeat the wood .

I live in Virginia w/very humid summers but I just read last night that it’s usually what’s used over crawl space here so I suppose it’s not!

I have engineered wood floors on a slab in FL and I'm not too far from the intracoastal/gulf ... you can't be more humid than that!

What is the wood in the living room? Is it real wood? Reconsider your vinyl decision and coordinate engineered wood with the living room wood floor (Is it engineered wood.) Since you can't match it exactly, the way you coordinate is to pick a slightly varieted pattern with some slats that harmonize with the existing floor then go lighter on the others.
