Is this a good deal for Florida
Comments (5)I have my favorites but I know that a contractor can end all that good advice. If you got to look at the evaporator coils and txv valves you see the carrier and trane have a sturdy coil that looks like it will last longer than amana. The issue I see with the pricing is that the contractor who sells amana is probably more concerned about a low price and thinks that is what you are looking for. Actually this is how Amana markets, they have the low price in the HVAC industry to contractors. If you are just looking at price than that is the way to go. Just hope things work out. For me I don't look at a manufacture that sells off of low price so I can make more profit, I look at eliminating headaches or return calls caused by issues or warranties. Amana created special warranties to help sell their products? Why? The Carrier Dealer is right around the fair market value of that system in your area and his concerns would be to give you a solid system and then take the time to do the small details in your install. He will then hopefully back it up with quick response if a warranty issue arises. The Trane, is a little on the high side for your area but same would probably go as I said about the carrier guy. If you like the trane I would call that guy back and see if he will reduce his price it should be around the carrier price. But like I said, the amana guy could be surprising, he could be the man that does the best work and is concerned about giving great customer service. If the product should fail for you it should be his headache and to fix the problems fast if it should arise....See MoreIs this a good deal?
Comments (6)3.5 for downstairs and 2.5 for up, it is a bit much but the load from all 4 contractors called for a little more than 5 1/4. I face the sun almost all day with very large bay windows in the front. The furnaces are Lennox, had a good friend that works for a large commercial HVAC company that said furnaces are great, rarely used here, and don't let them try to sell you new ones, and all 4 bids agreed furnaces are fine. New evap coils are included along with the other fluff I mentioned earlier....See MoreNeed help please! Decisions on new Lennox heat pump system
Comments (14)Hi Neo, I guess that's where we run into a problem - we're just not sure if we're paying a fair amount for the labor/material for the ductwork, but it seems like we'll just have to go on instinct on this one. The installer from Costco won't give us the cost of just the Lennox equipment, so we don't have that number as well =( I will definitely verify about the evap coil and the valv - good to know! The XP17 is a single stage - initially we looked at a 2 stage, but we didn't see the need for it, so decided on the XP17. Here's the electric rates for our area: Basic charge $7.00 per month Delivery charge 2.887 cents per kWh Energy charge, Winter (November through April billing cycles) First 800 kWh 4.356 cents per kWh Next 2,200 kWh 6.001 cents per kWh Over 3,000 kWh 7.220 cents per kWh Energy charge, Summer (May through October billing cycles) First 800 kWh 4.356 cents per kWh Next 900 kWh 6.001 cents per kWh Over 1,700 kWh 7.220 cents per kWh Given that we rarely go below freezing for sustained periods - I think a heat pump is perfect for our climate too (nor do we get heat extremes). Also, since we have NO heat at night typically (we turn the pellet stoves off), I think we'll be happy with even a cool 62 in our house! Thanks again for your help!...See MoreCostco Hansgrohe - Good quality?
Comments (24)I beg to differ. While the big box, mass merchants may not dictate specifications and certainly whomever isn’t manufacturing “special” faucets, the big box stores do have enough purchasing power to dictate price. As in, “we’re willing to buy a 100,000 faucets but we’ll only pay x dollars per faucet.” It’s up to the manufacturer figure out how to make a faucet at x dollars each and still turn a profit. All too often that means cheaper components and, of course, labor. Then the manufacturer may be required to provide signage (POP), displays, labor to move the displays, and buy-back of merchandise that doesn’t sell.
