Wood island countertops... an odd request for kitchen places??
Comments (8)LOL - I agree! I live on the Northshore, and when I first fell in love with the idea of a walnut top for our breakfast bar, I also ran into the same problem. I now work at a kitchen showroon, but I know we're not supposed to advertise on here, so I guess I can't say which one. We do carry CraftArt, but I've never had anyone show me how we'd order from them, nor have I had anyone ask me for wood countertops. I will say that I did find a kitchen showroom in Mandeville who quoted me a John Boos walnut top - really not a bad price compared to two estimates I had gotten online from other parts of the country which were very $$$. If you go on John Boos' web site and look for dealers, the kitchen showroom I'm talking about should come up - that's how I found them. Now, she didn't look thrilled to work up the quote for me, but she did it....See MoreMismatched Kitchen Counter-tops
Comments (35)Heatheron40, very nice. I asked a question about doing a tile countertop in our guest cabin recently as I feel like the look would complement the cabin aesthetic. Also I’m dying to learn to tile and thought it would be a fun place to start as it’s not an everyday space and I could take my time. Most of the responses were against. Basically stating the grout would make me crazy. The guy at the said what you’re saying I think, he said that modern grouts are more resistant to staining and such, and also to go with a tinted grout of some sort. I love your use of pattern to give it interest and intention!...See MoreKitchen island waterfall/countertops
Comments (31)If you like the Graceful Gray kitchen remodel image then take your cues from that with edge profile and countertop selection. The advantage of doing a solid perimeter is that you could have a bit more flexibility with backsplash options. But, if you will stick with one countertop selection throughout then I like Image #3 that Beth posted for both countertop and backsplash. If you are all about resale time is money and use these inspiration photos as working tools....See MoreWaterfall island & countertop advice: how thick should the edges be?
Comments (13)Thanks. It is primarily the issues on the GC side. Cabinet design were done a year ago, with the anticipation of using 2cm quartz and the 4cm edge profile, with island being the mitered edge. Cabinet seller indicated to use plywood underlayment for the counter and island. Now the GC along the way asked me to purchase 3cm quartz for the durability of it, saying that we can change all the edge profile to 6cm. There is one cabinet at the corner that would need to open right above the counter, and with this additional height from the 3cm quartz and edge, it may not have enough space to for that cabinet door to open. So I am looking for options -- or maybe just simply switch out the 3cm quartz for 2cm ones. -- I already paid for some pretty expensive quartz, and don't know whether the stone distributor would let me switch (presumably 3cm is more expensive than 2cm, so they might be ok)....See MoreJAN MOYER
